my other half has been going on about these for years

seriously, why are they so much?
how much are they in aus or US in comparison ( i know, tax, duty etc. in this country hikes it up, but be interested to hear).

also no fakes, look a like etc. pay cheap, pay twice in my mind

I saw a consumer type program a while ago that showed fake ugg boots were actually very bad for your feet so yes, stick with the genuine article.

I'd heard even the proper ones aren't brilliant for your feet -the soft leather offers little support.

Personally, I think they look awful, so big and angular not nice at all. And that is just on women, don't get me started on men wearing them!

SWMBO was given some Bear Paws (US equivalent) which she has been wearing in the bad weather, they are warm, but thats about it.

And way too expensive IMO.

Brought a pair back from OZ for a freind and they were much much cheaper. I think they were around 40 bucks AUS

a very commercialised designer label.
huge amount of fakes knocking about.

I don't think you can get your giro if you aren't wearing uggs

You forgot to mention they also (apparently) need a 'tramp stamp' to qualify :D

we bought some a couple of years ago for my other halfs mother, when we were in New York. We paid IIRC about $80 where as they were £120 over here.

wow, they've gone up loads in the last two years.
with VAT rises best to get them this side of this year I guess too

$80 rough FX so £50-60, that's half the price.

Even £120 x 7/47 = £18 in VAT, before VAT about £100. It's about double then!!!

like all these "Fashion" items, there are a number of different styles, (as a bloke I'm not sure there is but women indicate they are "Substantially" different)

back then some were selling in the UK for £300+ but these were the lower end (apparently)

Can't you tell I was heavily involved in the purchase :D

By all accounts, whooga boots are thicker, warmer, softer and cheaper. They're certainly warm and soft! Still expensive though, not much cheaper than UGGs, but I can recommend them. They're an Australian company btw.

not heard of those so did a quick google
sounds good to me, but as a present which other half has wanted for a long time, rather go with the Brand she wants

LOL

anyone know about the sizes? they seem to do UK sizes in half sizes.

so being a size 5 do you get a 4.5 being snugg with the inside wool and leather giving way, or do you go for 5.5 due to the thickness of the wool etc.

want it to be a suprise.

as for fashion will be going for just the classic style, short is cheaper than tall, so that will swing my decision LOL

I'd opt for the + size, you can always wear an extra pair of socks!!

true, but they are suppose to be toasty without socks.

hmm, just googled classic tall vs short for some views. typical most say tall = more expense LOL

oh my god.... this brings back memories of a couple of xmas's ago.

we researched this fake / real thing down to the nth degree! there's a 'tutorial' for looking out for fakes on ebay.

basically, it says things like ... if it says 'made in australia' on the ad, then they're fake. real uggs are made in china! which must have caught thousands of people out. also, you have to look carefully at stitching, and the way the logo is engraved on the buttons etc..

at the end of the day.. if it looks to good a deal, they're probably fake.

rather stick to high street for the fact it's easier, deffo genuine and any issues can take them back etc.

seriously, why are they so much?

Like any other fashions, some 'guru' says they're the in thing, or some celebrity starts wearing it and all the sheep follow as the makers and retailers rub their hands at the thought of raising the price as demand outstrips supply.

Why are they called Uggs? Is it short for ugly?

But not waterproof enough to keep them from getting ruined in all that snowy-slush...

You'd be better off with a very good pair of gore-tex-lined walking boots which will cost less than half the price of some THUGGs...

now you're talking. and they're would be no reason to venture out in the snow/slush with these puppies adorning the current Mrs Leftcurl :gag:

People just don't appreciate how many hamsters it takes to make one fluffy boot.

Somebody call Bob Geldof.. there's a famine in model land. Anyone got the emergency pork pies?

i got a couple of pairs in vegas earlier in the year about 120 and 190 dollars
the same over here were 120-00 and 190-00 gbp
you dont wear socks at all with uggs so buy the correct size and all those people you see walking about with them all bent over on there ankles
well there the fuggs (fake uggs)

:gag: Are you sure that she really, really wants a pair and you're not mis-reading the signals?
I had a lucky escape with Uggs this year. I'd mentioned that I needed some new boots and my OH assumed that I'd like a pair of Uggs as a surprise because "everybody else" was wearing them.

Ugly, clunky, unflattering . . . why the hell would I want to put those things on my feet? :cuckoo:
It was only that I commented how awful they looked when someone wearing them walked past us last week that he told me he'd been planning on buying them.

no definately wants a pair

classic design, but not sure which she prefers, tall or short

hmm, size and design is difficult to choose. hoping that if i did get them and they were slightly wrong in choice i could get them refunded/exchanged

Have a look at her other boots. If she has lots of long then go with long, if she has short she may prefer short.

think Uggs are the choice

thanks

thanks
i believe the above aren't authorised dealers so fakes in nature?
