Oes anyone know the best way to get around the personal statement in UCAS when you're applying for different course at different universities? The system doesn't seem very straightforward to use if you're not just applying for the same course anywhere...

I believe you can only submit one personal statement and will have to therefore write it so it seems applicable to the diferent courses you are applying for. You have left it rather late - many students have had offers for many weeks now.

From what I can remember, you can't. If you are applying to varying courses, you will just have to write a PS which is generic enough to cover all the bases - or try and tailor your PS towards your ideal top 2 choices, in the hope that you can get them and that the other 3 will not be strictly necessary.

The UCAS system is pretty set in stone, there isn't any "get around" to it really.

As others have said you cant get around it so try and keep it generic! I have heard of some people sending a covering letter to the university if they are applying for totally different courses. What course is it you're applying for ? Good luck :)

I know it's rather late - I'm currently in my first year at Glyndwr uni, but not enjoying it much, so want to switch, and only fairly recently realized I could! Thinking of international management wi American studies, graphic design or marketing/advertising.

I think you need to refine your choice a bit - there is little in common between those courses so a PS will be very difficult to construct.

PS is it the uni or the course you don't like? if its the latter you should be able to transfer courses at the same Uni without going through UCAS

You are going to have to make a choice quick, and probably refine your options as well to be honest. By leaving your options so wide and varied, you risk writing a PS which doesn't cater specifically enough to any of them, and you end up getting none of your options. And, as pointed out, the clock has already been ticking for sometime.

Apologies for the bluntness, but essentially you are in competition with the rest of the country, as well as applicants from abroad. Also, bear in mind that the tuition fee rise comes into effect for those starting Sep 2012.
