I had a play with Ubuntu a while back and I really liked the clean look and feel of it. I'd like to try and move one of my PC's over to it permanently and do all my editing from there. I am wondering if there was a way to get Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS4 to work as normal on Ubuntu?

Not that I know of. It's a shame as its a rock solid OS.
Yes.. The OS is fine... just a shame about the bug ridden UI :)

It's a pity. It runs in a very small footprint and isn't memory hungry, but it is a bit too technical to be a replacement for microsoft, and no really easy way of running apps like CS4

What about running those through virtual box?

Open synaptic and download virtualbox, excellent vmware application then just install windows and then install LR3 etc

Lots of guides online but its really easy

awesome! feeling a lot better after reading this!

I played with Ubuntu 18 months ago. I ended up with so many workarounds/vm's to get the things I need to run (I need to use MS Office for example) that I felt like it was the tail wagging the dog. If you're running VMs to run the programs you want to run (and they end up running with compromises), you have to ask yourself if you're running the correct OS in the first place.....

BTW, this is from someone who is a confirmed geek and whose first experience (I used it for a couple of years in preference to Win 3.11) with Linux was with kernel 0.99e ;)
