Has anyone been the the UAE recently?

Are exchange rates quite favourable just now? Can I get things cheaper over there is the question.

Hope someone can help.

Its one of the most expensive places to go, its the playground for the rich and famous so nothing is cheap out there. My cousin works out there selling VAG cars and they go for a high premium.

My son was out there a couple of months ago to visit a friend that lives there
and he was advised to do the money exchange once he arrived

Thanks for the advice. Perhaps wooing a rich business woman is the best way.

It's not cheap no mate, but then I wouldn't exactly say it was expensive either. Most stuff is about the same as here some is expensive that's a given though.

Depends what you after over there really? Camera wise my Dads D60 was on average a little expensive but not by much, there's plenty places to shop around and don't be afraid to barter a little :)

Was just out of interest really. I might try and pick up an LX3 while I'm over there, or a nice big camel.

lol - plenty camets, but they are the most expensive things :)

check out the ceramic ones though fyi ;)

lol. Once my work is done in the evenings I've got two aims, to board a luxury yacht accidentaly and befriend a millionairess and secondly to ride a camel.

Are you sure you have that the right way around

I lived out there for 4 years and went back last year on hols.

The prices used to be better than here but, with the exchange rates, they are about the same and, if buying electronics, you may risk not having warranty in the UK.

Gold and jewellery is still cheap ***.

And yes, only change currency here what you need to get you from the airport to the hotel. The rates are much much better out there.
