type a letter...

Could almost smell the ink ribbon.

I'm far to reliant on the Delete and Backspace keys!

I still occassionally have to use a telex machine at work

Still looked crap though! Much easier (and better results) these days, using a word processor and correcting on the fly. It was a PITA having to go back and correct, besides, if you'd missed out a letter you still had to pretty much start again!

fortunately in the real adult world my era used Brother Electronics but I have lovely fond memories of my Mum letting me use hers and teaching me 'the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog' which I think was the first sentence I ever learned

Trick was to not do that ;)

If I remember right, you could get tippex papers to do your corrections.

I loved using a typewriter "back in the day"
My dad let me use his fancy one which had correction lint build in. And multiple colours. Mine was just rubbish and all manual. But, I loved the efficiency of carbon copy paper :)

I I coud, I would do justy that. As an example though, I'm typing this withought reading what I'm typing and will post it as an example of just how por my typing is before self proof reading and correcting...

To be fair, It's not poor, just lazy ;)

Not too bad at all. Proof reading, meh. Sure when it is for a contract or ministerial submission. Not on a forum. Time is too precious b

Doesn't take long to check through and correct mistakes and IMO a forum is as important as a contract or ministerial submission. Far too easy to send out the wrong meaning with a typo and offend someone unintentionally. Spend a moment or 2 checking and correcting and you only offend those you intend to!

I agree to an extent, but spelling and grammar are the backbone of the English language, or rather of any language, and it's slowly being eroded by lazy "text speak".
It really does annoy me.

Even with correct spelling and grammar people choose to be offended. There is a group here, there and everywhere that choose to get offended regardless, and often prefer to play the player instead of the ball as well. It really doesn't matter what you write in that context.

Too often it is a case of assistive technologies getting in the way, often they help, many times they don't. And in other cases English may not be the native language, or people are just s*** at it.

I think it is much more productive to assume good intentions first before going off on one or apply prejudice about someone.

Was that aimed at me, you pot-smoking, clog-wearing, vowel-loving muppet?

I hope you realise I posted that as a joke!

Stop being such an insecure little girl :)

Until now.

All this negativity. I guess this must be my bad karma for playing those Jeff Minter games when I was young.

Yeah, and then you started cheating on me with that ruddy goat. Why would you put up a picture of my nemesis? Why? :arghh: :puke: :grumpy: :crying:

Yeah, but they have to give up their wool because it's sooooo soft and sooooo fluffy.
My coarse old mane is going nowhere and keeps me nice and snuggly in winter :p
