Nice shot, agree with the van.

Can you tell us anymore about the setup?

How were the speedlights set up?

Both off camera? Did you use TTL, any compensation, etc..

Clone out the van pfffft only if the client wants it, my time is too precious to be cloning stuff out for the web

One remote SB800 camera right, manual mode, @ 1/4

One remote SB800 camera left, manual mode, @ 1/8

A lot of photographers fear flash preferring to work solely with natural light and whilst there is no substitute for good natural light, we do not live in an ideal world and more often than not the natural light is not how we would like it to be and using flash in these situations can really enhance the look and feel of an image.

I totally agree with that, and then would add that you should have underexposed the background a bit more and the left flash is a smidge too bright too - also darkening the ground would help the shot too

Biggest problem for me though is the stand for the bike, my neighbour is a fab trials biker and wouldn't be seen dead in a shot with such a stand too - oh and for the 20 seconds it would take, I'd lose the van too :D

Each to their own I guess

Another image from the same shoot, this time I did clone some stuff out like the Telegraph pole etc

IMO (and this could totally be different from anyone else's) because of the even lighting...it is a little flat. Yes, off camera flash should add more depth, but in this case I feel it hasn't, due to the even left right configuration. (For example, there aren't really any shadows on his face.)

Nice shot! :)

If we're being picky, I think the flash balance left/right is spot on, maybe darken the sky a smidge.

Main crit would be the camera angle, maybe lower and to the left so that the tank breaks the skyline and the body fills that gap in the sky. He'd be better looking down on the camera.

Should have lost the bike stand (though it's better than a milk crate) and please straighten him up.

:yv:

needs a better angle like hoppy says,

maybe roll the shutter around a bit to see how it works with more or less ambient

Are you American David?

It's a great shot. Perhaps would have been better in the C&C section?

Anyway....

For me, I would have looked for an angle that de-clutters the background, deffo getting rid of that road and its fence. Would also have underexposed the background a touch more to add a bit more drama to the shot and bring out the subject, plus the on the subject possibly the flash is a touch too strong on the right side.

It's a good pic though and please dont let me take that away from you.

not gonna take that personal dick but steady on :O

I tend to pick up thingys very easily (thingys = those bits in conversation some people use inc a bit of a westcounty burr0

just thought I'd mention this is a jokey post as hoppy has a fair sense of humour :D
