Dont forget to pic up your 3D specs, has to be worth a look to see how good 3D looks in your own home

I'm missing something here :thinking::thinking:

Oh yeah, it's 3D week on C4.

Thanks for the reminder :)

Apologies for lack of the info :bang:

The queen is bad enough in 2D, I hardly want to see her in 3D! :)

I don't know if 3-D technology has moved on since then, but I remember 3-D broadcasts back in the 1980s and the glasses that were supplied with the Radio/TV Times. I can't say I was that impressed with it at the time.

That would have been on a 21" TV though, i'd think it'd have more impact on a 42" Plasma

You're right that's what I had back then - an old Philips set. Still don't have a plasma though. :shake:

The earliest I can remember was back in around 1982/3 when ITV showed a film called Fort Ti, a film made in the early 1950s. But I also remember later in the 80s, there were some bits and pieces shown in 3D, possibly by Channel 4.

In the wise words of my IT teacher:

3D didnt work when I was a kid. What makes them think that it will work this time round!

Who knows. I will ask him tomorrow :p

I think the most fun I ever had watching TV wasn't 3D TV but smell-o-vision.
Noel Edmunds did a special House Party show for Comic Relief or something (is CR "Pause for Pudsey?") anyway, you had to buy a little scratch and sniff book to get the full effect. The smells were awful, but I remember sitting on the sofa watching it with my brother, scratching this book and laughing at how silly it was. :bonk:

I watched bits of it, and it was quite good in places. But as I was aware as well it has not really improved that much. Imax is a better choice if any. Mmm!! smellyvision reminds me of the time I got home one evening and the wife was sat on the sofa reading a book, the tv was on in the background and there was a western movie on, it was showing a scene of a place that had just been ransacked and set on fire by some Indians. Little had the wife noticed there was actually smoke coming out of the back of the tv :gag:

That was fun. My eyes hurt like a hurting eye afterwards though :(

Anyone know what's with the colours? they are showing yellow/blue on the film to create 3d but using red/blue anaglyph glasses to view.

I have done 3d still images and always do it red/blue anaglyph and if you have a look at the image I have done below, using glasses I reckon most people should see it 3d, whereas last night I couldn't get any 3d effect close to what I create, and put it down to the yellow/blue they were using?

Mmm Like they said not everyone will see the same effect, take for instance your shot. I can see nothing 3d about it with the glasses on, yet last night it worked fine. :)

I believe smell-o-vision was used in a film called Scent Of Mystery in the early 60s, where certain parts of the film released different odours into the cinema. There were a number of gimmicks used in Hollywood movies back then, with some of William Castle's films being known for them.

Have you got a pair of Yellow/Cyan glasses? Last night all the glasses the people in the documentary had were red/cyan but the programme was outputting as yellow/cyan - well for me anyway. I know that they said it would vary for different people but I saw nothing remotely 3d.

This youtube video for me works very well, the bowl in foreground stands out and as he points the gun, it is what I would expect the programme to have been like:

Sorted, they are using the ColorCode3D system....

We are using the ColorCode3D system which is superior to Anaglyph (red & green ... Using ColorCode3D the 3D ad can be viewed using the naked eye

Which explains why I can't get the 3d as I am using Anaglyph glasses which won't work.
