TV Tonight BBC 3 22:30 - Paparazzi: Next Generation

What do you think of murders and rapists?

What has that got to do with paperazzi photographers? :suspect:

Looks like I have hit a nerve with some people.

There was one bit of hope in that the media as a whole, would not print a picture (which one of these scu, sorry, gentleman took) of Sarah Ferguson's private parts. :nono: Although worryingly that may have only been because of her royal connections.

That is something I wouldn't want to see even by accident. ;)

I think the guy who just took photos from his car with out the celeb knowing was quite a good job very sneeky and hurts no one.

I'm just wondering if you think paps are scum then what do you think of murderers and rapists. I mean, you've set the scale pretty high for yourself there.

If you only think of murderers and rapists as scum, then you have set your own scale pretty low imho.

Each to their own though eh!

I've got nothing else to do. My crap domain folks have screwed my email over so waiting for a response from them. I hate it when they make changes for the better but it just results in epic fails.

FITP, did you see my self portrait?

Damn you!

Nah, in the what you look like thread. It's hot.

Here's what KayJay takes papping:

What I found more interesting is that he reckons he paid £4,000 for an 300mm f2.8 IS L lens.

For Sale - Mint 300mm f2.8 IS L Lens - £3,500 BARGIN I TELL YOU !!!! PM Me !!!

Hahahaha!

i despise them.

i have had pictures i could sell and on principal i didnt.
fireman smoking at a fire,soap star i worked with,dead rock star etc.etc.

they are not doing a job, they dont produce a product that betters the world.

it all comes down to them making cheap easy money of someone else.

besides that look at the way they drive around breaking the law with no worry should they maim or injure someone so they can make money.
its disgusting.in fact there whole behaviour is despicable, as is the way they justify it.

personally i wont read those papers and magazines that use those sort of pics anyway.

its the old chicken and egg story insisting we want them.

in fact ime going to phone them later and ask them if they are so good perhaps they would like to go to Afghanistan and prove them selves as war reporters.

of what real interest or news is female soap star walks down the road it has no merit whatsoever.

thing is ditchdigger, Afghanistan may apeal to you in pictures, but to Millions of people in the uk, They want to see "Paris Hilton" fall over, get into a car incorrectly, pose with a new fella etc.

Its supply and demand, Simple as.
It doesn't justify there actions by all means but, well lets face it - how many jobs do you know that don't bend a rule or two for ultimate game. I know for a fact that big buissnesses will bend rules, Break Data protection and even "make admin errors" in order to try and get out of things. Its still law breaking.

I wonder if any of these paps have taken an absolute snorter of a shot something along the lines of Posh getting her toes sucked by ronaldo whilst swigging out of a bottle of Russian vodka and thought Hmmm i'm gonna keep that one to put towards my pension and kept it private for veiwing and selling at a later date.

Maybe I am just cynical, but this appears to mirror modern life in that everything reverts to the lowest common denominator.

I managed to catch it last night, was quite good really. You get to see the human side of paps, and for all the flak they get they're just like us really :) If I caught a photo of anyone famous I'd sell it in a heartbeat, cha-ching :woot:

I wouldn't want such a stressful job where pay can be sporadic and you have to be up before dawn one day and up till 4am the next though.

Probably not, who's to say that particular celeb's career won't be in tatters next week, making the shot(s) worthless ;)

I agree with redhead. I wouldn't go so far as to call them scum though.
Oh hang on, yeah I would. :D

And I constantly berate my wife when she buys Hello! or OK, or any daily tabloid arsepaper.
The demand is there because as a society we have created this huge notion that celebrity still 'means' something. At one time, if you were a celebrity, you were good at something, you were the best at it, and that's what made you famous.

Now, just go and live in a house for a few weeks with some strangers and boom, instant 'fame'. It means nothing.

Take Jade Goody for instance (putting aside the tragic events that are happening in her life right now of course).
What is she *actually* famous for? Getting her tits out on channel 4 and being 'a bit fick'. Yet she's a 'celebrity'. Why? Because she's been incredibly canny since she got out of the house, she's played the media and the public like puppets, and now she's worth a donkeyload.

It's a unique situation now because we have a fast moving media driven world. Pictures can be beamed pretty much anywhere on the globe within milliseconds.

The comparison with drug dealers is the same. OK, totally different levels of seriousness of course, but the premise is the same. There's a demand for it, which creates the dealer. While the demand is there, the dealer will deal....for his own gain. Remove the demand, the dealer goes away.

It's a shame it's got to the point now where the media is so sales and profit driven that anything they say just doesn't mean a damn thing anymore.
Just look at how they deal with celebs in womens mags. 'Mrs Celeb LOOKING AWFUL!!!!!' because they photographed her bringing the milk in at 6 in the morning. Who *doesn't* look like a bag of **** at that time in the morning (besides me of course :D). Yet they'll run it next to a picture of her when they had her in for a makeover 2 months ago looking young, beautiful and airbrushed. All designed to sell sell sell.

And the monkeys public buy into it week after week.....and yes, my wife is one of them.
She was watching Katie and Peter (Andre/Jordan) show a while ago and when they moved into their new house they showed them trying to keep the paps out, and my wife commented that it was disgusting how they couldn't be left alone. I did try and tell her that by buying OK and Hello she is paying those photographers to do that, but she doesn't care, she just wants to read all the 'gossip'.

So whose fault is it? It's the printed media for creating this monstrous profit machine, and the british public for paying for it.

To the comment about celebs phoning paps when they want to be in the news / leaking info etc, saying they can't have it both ways.
Why can't they? Why can't they control when THEY will have photographers in their lives? Why can't they say 'don't photographhy me with my kids at the park today, but you may photograph me while I'm out shopping in Knightsbridge tomorrow'.
Mags still get their latest shots, paps still get paid, joe monkey gets his glossy rag fix, everyones happy. (To an extent of course)

The lengths they will seem to go to are shocking tbh, complete intrusion into private lives. Sure, those in the public eye DO have *some* duty to BE in the public eye sometimes, but certainly not to the length of intrusion that we see today.

Ronnie Barker? Know who he is? Of course you do...one of the biggest names in British comedy of the past 50 years. Ever see him in the NOTW or OK / Hello? ;)

Well I watched it, it was ok (better than watching repeats on dave)

The thing that really annoyed me was the way the paps drive when chasing down their target, no seat belts, running red lights (and then getting annoyed when someone comes out from the other way) , overtaking in a residential area, and then to top it off the first guy speed up under their target and starts shooting out of his window whilst driving at god knows what speed. I thought all of this was completely idiotic, if I was doing that I would get caught and punished. Not to mention putting the public in danger.

The one guy that was sitting in his car shooting from a distance wasn’t too bad, at least he wasn’t hounding the target, (but he was driving with no seatbelt)

Just my opinion.

Cheers

Chris

They all seem to have line they wouldn't cross with a celebrity, commonly the grief over a loved one having died or a having a very serious disease, though the line they would cross could change if the pay day was big enough.

Only one of the pap's said this, the others flatly refused regardless of pay. How on earth does that label them all as scum?

Watched it, quite enjoyed it, but what came across for me is what a tedious, boring job it is, waiting around for hours for some Z list wannabe is not my idea of fun.

I'm just watching it on iplayer at the moment. As far as taking photos, it doesn't look overly skilful - point your camera in roughly the right direction with a wide enough angle lens and shoot on continuous high. Half the time, they're not looking through the viewfinder.

Yep as one then said he spent his life waiting.
Wasn't as glamourous as it sounds.
And there didn't look like there was much skill in it.
Plus it was very cut throat too

Well think about it. If you spent time on composition, white balance and things like that you'd NEVER get the picture. The skill is in being in the right place at the right time and making sure you hold your ground. Strong elbows are a must I'd expect.

I'm not sure that's how I would want to make a living, chasing celebs round all night taking **** photos for a few grand.

They'd have to dig him up first

But I agree with everything you say Marcel

I don't think its the paps fault at all. Market forces - supply and demand - the "invisible hand" of self-interest etc. If people will pay to read the garbage that gets printed about these people then, there will always be paps.

I would lay a lot of the blame at the feet of advertising, because they play the game on both sides - paying the celebs to wear their gear, and paying the paps to takes photos of them wearing it etc.

Sure, the practices might seem underhand, but open your eyes, look into the legal profession or even the health system; this place isn't so morally upright as you think. Doctors for example, are increasingly refusing to perform risky surgery because it could worsen the statistics for the hospital and lose them funding. The only problem I have is the maniac driving they seem to do...

I would say, I consider photography an art form and their particular style of 'photography' doesn't really strike me as being part of it.

Having watched it now I don't think they do that much harm although I do agree that their driving is horrendous. I think the job has little to do with photography though. They just point their cameras in the general direction and take lots of shots in the hope that some will come out well. Obviously years of practise will improve the accuracy but it's still not photography as we tend to know it. the real skill is being in the right place at the right time and having the contacts in order to get the jump on others helps.

Interesting that the guy who admitted he would cross the line if the money was right was also the one who thought it was OK to break the unwritten rule and get his mate to block the other pap's shot.

Oh and Redhead, Calling someone scum is not an opinion, just an insult.

So do drug dealers. ;) Not all. I'm not saying I'm perfect, but I don't read the papers, and I try not to watch the news. And I certainly don't read Hello or OK or whatever.

There is a demand for such pictures for sure, but I wouldn't stoop so low, if someone else is willing to go to such lengths to hound people then let them live with their actions. Some of the people in the program seem to have no qualms about what they do.

To me they are scum, and that's my opinion which I have every right to express. :)

Well it still seems you like certain celebrities. I see you went out your way to photograph the Liverpool football team.

Really, really enjoyed the watch. I think it'd be a laugh doing it with a mate. They seemed to have a giggle...

Very interesting, and I wish they made more programmes about it.

Anyone know of any Pap DVDs or online clips?

ill have to keep an eye out for it... i would love to be a pap.. altho there aint not much need for it up in newcastle.. who we going to snap... newcastle united and ant and dec lol..

totally agree they have no worries about killing someone while driving like lunatics for lets be hones greed.then shouting at other road users inexcusable.

when i saw the pictures on another programme of them following wiliams girlfriend 20-30 around her like a pack of dogs that was pure harassment/stalking and nothing else she was not looking for publicity.if i had been their i would have been forced to intervene as a matter of duty.

i do not see putting a camera in someones hand justifies breaking the law or harrasing a young girl just for money.nor does saying people want to see these pics i dont

:shake: delightful individuals.

Is it easy money ? as long as you a prepared to step over the line.
If they get the shot £££££, surely it doesn't matter who or what got in their way, red lights, abandoned cars in the middle of the road, dangerous driving, its just a fine, which is part of business running costs.
Royal up-skirts....doesn't matter as long as it sells, does it ?
The Gordon Brown thing was precious, spitting dummy's out cos he didn't look in to the camera, like Brown actually owes this ******** a living or something.
They don't shoot for public interest, they shoot for money, if somebody gets hurt in the process, it comes with the territory and they'll live with it for as long as the bank balance keeps ticking over.

amased me how rude, pushy and down right obnoxious some of them were.
and how desperate the mags and papers are for "the" shot.
i wonder what fergies gusset looked like.
oh ,did i just type that?
lilly allen has a nice arse.
paris hilton knows EXACTLY how to work the system.
and you think you,d at least refer to the prime minister as "mr brown" . not "gordon".
i wonder how often swearing through your car window, gets you a punch in the nose.
very little camera. skill seems to be involved either.
machine gunners .
