Higher management has decided to rearrange the living room. The problem is that the TV aerial point is now some way from where she wants it. We're viewing Freeview via boosted digital aerial so
1) My first thought is to buy an aerial extension lead. What length of lead can I get away with before signal loss is an issue. or

2) Can technology come to my rescue with a wireless solution. BT Infinity is available as an upgrade to my broadband if needed. If I go down this route what hardware will I need.

Any advice appreciated

Decent cable and you can go for a long way before length matters, cheap nasty thin stuff will degrade the signal much more quickly. If you have a local tv shop get them to make up a lead the right length of good cable. Also if possible leave the amplifier where it is and it will help send the signal along.

Not sure what counts as "good" cable but our signal comes down from the chimney (~25') to the Sky box and is then fed back up to our bedroom (10' or so) where it's split through an amplifier then goes back up into the loft (say 8'), across the loft (~30') then down and along to the conservatory (~ another 30'). No problem with freeview dropout or loss of Sky signal (carried along the aerial wire) but the eye for the Sky remote doesn't work over that distance (luckily, we have direct line of sight to the Sky box from the conservatory sofa so control it like that!). I made the long cables up myself, using F type screw connectors where possible and cable sourced from B&Q IIRC (the outside diameter of the cable is about 8mm so not the thin and nasty stuff you can get.)

Unless your lounge is the size of a polo field, you'll be fine with an extension cable...Just get a nice good shielded one...I make my own, but I'm sure the little white ones will be fine...

Consider how far the cable comes from the aerial on the roof to the TV point. A few extra metres in the lounge is little in comparison. If you make your own lead think about using WF100 spec cable (e.g. Webro), like satellite connections use.

David, the eye works in the bedroom but not in the conservatory. Pretty sure it's a distance problem since it doesn't work even when the amplifier and bedroom eye are taken out of the equation. Not a problem anyway since the remote has line of sight to the box from here. Probably going to get a smart TV for out here as well - self gift for commercialmas!

Thanks for that. Much appreciated

The cable you need is CT100, you loss 2.9 db of signal per 10 meter if used for Satellite signal (2000mzh) or 1.9 db per 10 meters for Freeview signal (850mhz)

Freeview min is 45db & Sky is 52db min to work with out problems

Magic eye won't work as you have it going through an amp, it need a direct cable as voltage runs through it from box to eye, the amp stops it, unless you get something called a loftbox

Bedroom link goes through the amp and the eye works. The amp is one of the type that allows the power to run to the eye. Tried swapping the leads and the bedroom works through both outputs while the conservatory doesn't. Can only guess that the 100' or so is too far for the 5V to carry without significant loss.
