No i questioned the reasoning behind those posting in this thread when they have no interest in the subject. Not directed at you specifically but you did add that no one is going to tell you how to view your TV, i don't think anyone is. I simply offered advice to those who might want it, but have spent page after page explaining the purpose of this thread to people who have no interest?

Well yes, that's what Out Of Focus is for, any other business, the forum its in now, is computers websites and technology, although it doesn't specifically say photography related
its generally accepted that it is.

Come on, you know it was moved surely, it was stated earlier in the thread. It seems Barry originally posted it in "out of focus" not unreasonable thinking that meant off-topic, it was moved to "technology" and now he is being criticised for posting it there! Poor b****r can't win -- though actually I think he's doing rather well being still here plugging away offering help on page 6 and with one slip keeping his cool.
The forum should consider creating a special award persistence under fire ;-)

I think you should have beer and get an early night, you must be worn out. To be fair, this is mostly a friendly and helpful forum and there are lots of off-topic threads asking or giving advice about cars, plumbing etc. However there are also a lot of old lags on here (as you can tell from the messages total) who obviously know each other well, including in real life, and I think they sometimes get stir-crazy and go off-piste (to mix metaphors) -- maybe off-p***ed would be right ;-) but taken over all it's generally well-balanced.

(Edit, apparently I'm not allowed to say p155ed!)

And a lot of that is posting in the staff room, or reacting to an RTM, sorting out messes, complaints, bitchiness, handbags at dawn .... the honey trap that was once the classifieds, but now, as thats pretty much automated, that save's a lot of hassle and posts :thumbs:

Don't get me wrong mate. Most on here have been very welcoming and helped me no end with my newbie questions about my rather old camera, so i thought i might be able to help with a subject i know a little about.

I am sure most on here are good people and maybe i have not worded my posts correctly and they were misunderstood, maybe thats what it was.
 
Ok as promised. This was one of the last project I was involved with before I left the broadcast industry

The projector, Christie CP2220 full 4k projector with 3D

Wow stunning Byker. Who did the calibration on this set up, ISF/THX?

You said the lighting could colour change, was it switched off during viewing?

Yup all lighting was off during viewing, but could be dimmed. Separate lighting was available on the desk for the editors/demo artists

Calibration was done by us, with help from the supplier for the projector. They were more concerned the aircon was up to scratch. The red blanking plate is where the separate AC feed goes into to keep the projector cool.

Oh and spot the number of speakers. And the black surround to the screen was audio material with a huge bank of speakers behind it

You'd need a very large lottery win.

Do you know what they used to calibrate it.?
 
Cant remember the device used - it was 4 years ago. Used the device to measure the colours on the screen and enter the values into the menu on the projector - job done.
Took far longer to setup the 3d

Normaly an ISF or THX calibrator would be brought in for these type of jobs. Maybe that is why Blu Ray did not look so good on this size of screen.?

3D is a b****r to do.

Perhaps you should describe the problem with your PJ's. Are you seeing stripes or spots?
 
Stripes are easy to fix spots not so much.;)

Ps
Those ones with star wars characters are a nightmare to calibrate.

You are quite correct, Forums are like TV's / films etc, they apparently put years on you too. :)
 
I was involved in a very small way in the US Flat Panel shootouts over a period of time. They were attended by all the leading film/Tv and manufacturers (Sony, LG, Panasonic, Canon etc) from around the world, also attending was Dr Larry Webber the inventor of Plasma TV and were great to watch.

In this clip from i think 2014 you can see the world's leading calibrators and film compressionists explaining a little about day and night mode on TV's and monitors, these were broadcast live:

Well i have finally gave up with this thread. I am to be honest astonished that on a photography forum no one is interested in moving images and how to get the best from them, but will go out of there way to get the best from still ones (even these can look good on a properly set up TV or Projector). I wish you all well and good luck with your hobbies whatever they might be.

BTW, as someone who is interested in moving images, what equipment do you use when recording video. Are you using a 4K camera?

He means if you are so interested and knowledgeable regarding moving images and are surprised that we here don't share your interest then we are equally surprised when you say you don't take videos.

At least I think that's what he meant.

I am only interested in how those moving images are replicated on my screen.

My statement was purely from a photographic perspective. Simply that we all want the pictures we see to look their very best and i am surprised that no one hear shares that view for moving images.

Videography is a very different genre to photograqphy.

I'm not at all surprised.

With the advent of the drone I'm sure more people are "doing" videos but I doubt calibrating their TV's will make much difference to an HD feed.
