The cost of a TV license is to rise by £5.50 to £180 from 1 April, the government has announced.
Read this on? yes you guest it the BBC website.
£180 a year for what?
Is it any wonder that people are turning to these illegal tv firesticks.
£180 for BBC and £?? depending on what package you have.
And I thought the most ridicules part of the BBC license was the reduced cost for a blind person.

I haven't had one for about 3 years now, we just use some basic online services, ITVX , Amazon Prime and Discovery

I would rather pay £180pa to be able to watch broadcast TV than pay for Sky etc. I don't watch much on BBC1 to be honest, but there are some good stuff on the other channels and you need a license to watch those, which I record and skip the ads. I have netflix as well, No ads package.
If anything is banned I would go for the adverts. It also pays for Radio, again with out adverts.

Whilst I've lost patience with BBC News and TV to a large degree, I think BBC Radio and World Service in particular are excellent services. They need paying for, and They can't survive commercially but can if public services. The licence fee is an anachronism though, the funding should be more overtly from the Treasury and not a fake tax. However if t takes a fake tax to keep the BBC independent from commercial influence, then I'm happy to pay it.

I think i might sack my t.v licence off. I rarely watch live t.v and could easily do without it. The only thing I have watched on the B.B.C in about 3 years is a few documentaries that my brother was the presenter in. I try to avoid anything else related to the B.B.C were possible I have strong moral objections to both how it is run and the people that run it.

Typical , Prices always go up and very rarely go down , Why? because they can.

I sometimes flick between Radio 1 and Radio 2 on my 10 minute commute type driving. I could go without though....

Usually R6Music for me these days, with an occasional dip into R2 if someone plays the smiths.

I stopped my use of television way back in 2020. I do not own a television and do not have a TV Licence, every year they try to get me to pay and every year I say NO, twice last month I received a letter and refused on line to buy a licence now they have given me a Number to state that I do not need one.

I am going to buck the trend here and say I actually quite like some of the BBC output. We enjoyed some of the recent dramas and Radio four has some good programmes on it. Natural history output at the BBC has always been good.

I have to agree, some of the small series dramas have been excellent. The Jetty, Blackshore and Lynley I've particularly enjoyed.

£180 per year is a little under 50p per day, not bad value at all I think.

Would happily see all that scrapped.

What the t.v license actually pays for is to ensure that Dr. Shah’s strong views are broadcast across all media.
