TV connection to Internet

I have an ordinary TV and would like to connect it to the internet thro the house broadband.
I would like to watch catch up - iPlayer etc- and you tube - would like to watch photo videos without sitting at a computer or having laptop on the floor with an HDMI cable trailing up the back of the TV
i have no wish to watch netflix, etc.
So quite basic.
I understand that I can buy something like Fire stick, google chrome cast. There are probably others.
Can anyone give me advice on the way to go - cheapest efficient unit is preferred

If there is a thread that I have missed please point me in that direction

wdtv, appletv, chromecast (needs a tablet or other device as a host), amazon fire.

Roku stick isn't bad either, but you will need an hdmi port.

For a cheap solution, get a nowTV and put plex on it

I use it daily and although it requires a phone or tablet to control it I find it fantastic, one less remote hanging around

Pretty much. It's wifi so need to to be in range of your router. Has all the usual Netflix, BBC, itv, channel 4 catch up services, YouTube, nowtv and 100s of other channels I've never explored (not all free though).
