Tv and hard drive question

I have a query that howl fully a techie person can help me with! So, I've just discovered my TV has a USB port. However, it'd be a headache to keep unplugging the usb hard drive and spinning the tv round every time I put new programs or movies on. So, if I got a wireless hard drive, plugged that in to the tv permanently and transferred movies wirelessly to the hard drive.. Would they then be accessible on the tv via the multimedia input area?

I guess the port is mainly aimed at allowing you to record programs from the TV itself so no need to ever unplug it - I presume you are wanting to download video from the web on your pc and play it on your tv?
 
If you have windows 10, it's probably easier just to "cast" multimedia content from the PC (or laptop) to the TV wirelessly (right click over the folder icon and you should see a "cast to" option in the drop down menu), be it image, music and even video files. All you need to do is to type in your WiFi password on the TV end. But, that's assuming your TV is of the smart type with it's own built in wireless receiver, that's how I do it with my Sony Bravia set.

Does your TV allow playback / recording etc to the USB slot - check your instructions first - our main TV does, however, our small one in the kitchen has a USB slot, but won't allow playback / recording etc from it - might be something to do with uploading new software ???

If it does, why not look to a USB extension cable, and have this plugged into the TV and have the HDD sat on the shelf plugged in this way ? Would save having to reach behind TV etc if you wanted to unplug the drive to add new programmes / movies etc ... and would save having to buy a new drive.
 
It's a bush tv - nothing amazing, a 40" Full HD one, I'll check the model tonght. I do have a Mac and Apple TV, but just though it would be easier and less impacting on the macs storage to use an external cheap 2tb hard drive rather than using home sharing, if that makes sense?
 
From what I can see on the web, I don’t think it does support recording direct to USB. Plus, in the TV menu it doesn’t seem to give many options either really..Cheers though!
