Yes
what do people do when out and about with there cameras,
do you turn it off inbetween shots or do you leave it to power down/sleep?

Auto off if Im carying on my neck, proper off when it goes back in the bag.

Usually auto off when I'm carrying it and full off when I put it away. Trouble is I nearly always forget to fully switch it off when I put it away!

Auto off, unless it goes in the boot and might possibly keep triggering the live view, stays on auto off if on the seat or round my neck or where ever.

thanks everyone,i was`nt sure what to do as i thought i may mess up the chip if i kept turning it on and off.

Turn off between shots

I have mine set to auto off then off when it is in my bag :)

I leave it on, the only downside I can see is that the battery may run out so carry a spare, or charge up before you go out.

I never turn mine off, even in the bag, unless there's a danger of something touching any of the buttons.

Auto off in 1 minute... It's so fast to come back to life there's little reason not to IMO :)

Auto off after 30 secs.

Fully-Off when they're away in the bag - if 'out and about' and working, then switched on and in snooze mode.
If I'm just carying one body on the off-chance I might spot something (rare), then generally Fully-Off as I've lost count of the times when I've heard the click-click-whirrrrrr as I accidentally lean on the secondary shutter-release on the gripped part of the body (I never switch that off as I invariably forget and miss vertical shots if I do...).

Mine in always on 1min auto off, I never switch it off to change cards or battery's either.

Off while in the bag.

K20D - off between shots or batches.

EOS 50D - sleep because the off switch is rather awkward.

Fully off between shots for me.

Auto off 4 mins when I'm out and switched off when I get home.

Turn off. Auto off is set to 30 seconds in case I forget but I try to remember to use the switch every time.

When I had my 400D I never used to forget to turn it off as the power switch was easy to use- now I have a 40D for some reason I forget 50% of the time to turn it off when putting it away! Anyone else have this trouble with xxD+ cameras?!

auto off on the strap , full off in the bag

I switch my cameras off and on each time at least when I remember (I tend to forget on the GH1 for some reason), the camera start up quickly and they carry out a dust shaker cycle which I don't believe occurs whe the camera is woken from a sleep state.

Pretty much left on when not put away. Doesn't use much power when in sleep mode. A couple of months ago, I went to take the camera out of the bag and realised I had left it switched on from a week previous. Not sure how much charge was in it when I had put the camera away, but there was still 94% left when I took it out.

Turn it on when I take it out the bag and just leave it on until it goes back in again.

It sometimes takes the odd shot with the vertical grip over my shoulder but as Rob said above, if I turned it off I'd forget when I needed it quickly.

The power switch is a PITA to use on the 1D, better design on the 5D and even better on the xxxd series. The battery is more than capable, 4 days shooting time on snooze 1500+ shots and still ~40% left.

Turn on before the first shot of the day, sleep mode enabled, and off when I'm putting it away that night - if I remember.
