Turkeys

There is nothing like a good gobbler

(and there goes the tone) - tbh I'm not that bothered so long as its a good healthy bird with succulent breasts and not an excessive ammount of fat

I would have contributed more . But I am a bit of a chicken. Boom Boom

If you're a bit of a chicken that goes "Boom Boom" you're probably the drumsticks... (Badum-tish!)

there is a cock joke struggling to get out here, so you can all use your imagination...

I am totally outraged that you lot could even consider eating something as cute as this :(

What fowl suggestion!

Is there really that much differance between a Turkey costing £5 a kilo and the Norfolk Blacks at £11.50 per kilo. I appreciate they will have a bit more flavour but are they worth it?
Yes they are especially when cooked overnight in Aga slow oven. Tried a free range Turkey (11kg) from a local farm three years ago and we were amazed at the difference and have stuck with it since.

Has it not started to turn yet?! :hungover:

It's an Aga not a rotisserie oven...

If turkeys are cute, then so was Ghengis Kahn. They can be very nasty, such as if one falls sick, the others will kill it. I (and others) have been attacked, and after a direct hit in the nuts by one thought for a moment I would become a enuch

I worked on a turkey farm when I first moved down here and one of the workers decided to be open regarding that she was a lesbian "Any job a man can do, I can do as well!" so she was given the task of checking the sheds. It caused great amusement that once inside a shed full of adult turkeys they ganged up on her and chased her out of the shed.

As for cooking, mine cost £9 from Lidl and it is the trimmings - a couple of bacon rashers.included and a slow roast not letting the breast dry up so as one correspondant put it "tasting of plaster of Paris and horsehair"

and after four days cut any remaining meat off and use the carcass as a basis for soup

There is about £6.50 difference between them :p

I'm not convinced there is necessarily a lot between one to the other. Not on "name" alone. You can be unlucky and have a rough bird from either.

No idea which label ours had. It tasted really nice.
