TTL cable for non-ttl flash?

Hi,

I've currently got a YN-560 flash on the way, I know it's basic, but I guess we all have to start somewhere (and on a limited budget!).

I understand it's not TTL, however, the only off camera flash cables I can find are TTL. I went into Jessops asking if the non-ttl cables for Canon or Nikon (all the sold) would work, as surely the TTL function wouldn't be compatible, but seeing as the flash itself doesn't support that feature it's not a problem? They basically said, I don't know sorry, not a single person in the shop knew, so I bought one anyway with my fingers crossed!

So basically, should my Canon TTL off camera flash cable work with my YN-560 flash and my Fuji S9600 ? And if not what sort of cable should I go for? As I can't find a specific one for my camera?

Sorry if its a stupid question, I'm still learning all the camera lingo, this forum is proving very helpful so far! :)

As a test, I have just connected a Canon 30D to a YN-560 using a Canon OC-E3 E-TTL flash cable, and as expected all went well and the flash was fired no problem, obviously not in E-TTL

Will it work with your Fuji S9600, well I expect so as, but if you have not un-packed it yet then take it back and get your money back.

A genuine Canon Flash cable should be in the £50 region which is not cheap, but your camera and the YN-560 both have PC Sync sockets, which means you can get a MUCH cheaper and longer PC Sync Lead for around a tenner.

You would just have to check which sex your terminals are on the camera and flash ( there are male and female plugs) then have a look at somewhere like Warehouse Express or even ebay.

thank you, I wondered why the cables were so expensive for features I would need!

I'l give the sex thing a google and see what I can find, hopefully that's saved me a nice bit of money to spend on something else for the camera :)
 
Any cheap ttl cable will do the job, if you're worried about the TTL connections causing problems simply open up the camera hotshoe end of the cable and snip al but the centre wires to the foot of the cable connector.

I have a Nikon one that I've done this with and it works fine on my Panasonic GF-1
