anyone else noticed this lately?
i've observed a growing trend for truck drivers (UK ones mainly) driving outside lanes 1 and 2. It happens especially on the 5 lane parts of the M25 where they drive along in lane 3 or 4. Its not when any of the lanes are for departing the motorway either..

I only really have experience on 3 lane motorways and have noticed them on the third lane there.

Are they only allowed in the first two lanes? I thought it was just that they weren't allowed in the fastest lane...

overtaking? or just normal driving?

Illegal either way isn't it?

I just get ragged off on the A34 with truck drivers trying to overtake each other going uphill when they're right on their limiter anyway. The result is a mile long line of traffic crawling along at 58mph. Idiots. I think they should be confined to the left lane on dual carriageways too.

there are some bits on a dual carraigeway near birmingham (i forget which one!) where trucks arent allowed to pass each other in rush hour.. seems like a good idea to me.

i think its still a current law, but in germany they arent even allowed on the road on a sunday (someone correct me if thats not true any more)

You are mistaken mate, on a four lane motorway, for example, they can use the inside three lanes.

I drive the things to up my meagre existance, and I hate cretins overtaking each other at 0.0000000001 mph, WHAT IS THE BLEEDING POINT?...........:bang:

And breathe..........:)

Spot on Frac, there is no point, and I'm guessing it's even more annoying for you as these muppets give all of you a bad name. I know it's not all of you...just a lot :D

And Badg, that is true about Sundays in Germany, it's caused us problems getting back from JHQ in Reindhalen after tours there.

well that explains it :)

i didnt give them the finger just in case i was wrong.. glad i didnt now :)

Fingers OK, we can`t catch you anyway..........

I think it's the A14 from the M1 across to the A1, Trucks aren't allowed in the outside lane. When I've been that way it seems to work well :)

If anybody is doing less than 60mph on the inside lane then the trucks should be allowed to nudge them off ;)

Certain sections of the A14,yes.

Trucks, should be,regulated at 56 mph, there should be a minimum speed for all non HGV`s of sixty on motorways and major trunk roads.

Sundays are the worst day to drive in the UK..............

The M42/A42 has or had the overtaking restrictions at peak hours but I don't know if they're still running.

I too find it annoying but when you're driving HGVs (which I have done) the most important thing other than where the next Yorkie is coming from is keeping up momentum. Letting off the gas because a trucker in front is doing a couple of MPH less than you is not an option.

besides, that next truck you're moaning about might just be about to deliver your next photography purchase, so don't be too hard on them eh :thumbs::thumbs:

Funny I was going to have a bitch A34. The other thing that annoys me are the old fuddy duddies who do 35-40mph on a 60 mph road and then when you go to overtake they speed up and you end doing 70 just to get past them, then once you have passed them they slow back down, gets right on my wick to say the least.

A42 has the no overtaking rule for trucks.
trucks arent allowed in the outside lane of motorways, unless overtaking a slow , wide load.
hefty fine if ya get caught.
and strangely lately in my wagon, i'm coming across a lot of old farts in big cars doing 48 mph up long inclines on the motorway.
if you dont time it right to get past em, you drop out of the power and end up crawling. holding everyone up.
yes sadly, some drivers do take an awfull long time to get past each other. often the guy being overtaken just has to lift of for a second (i do) .
truckers are often under such tight deadlines, that keeping "on the limiter" means they might get home that night.rather than "running out of hours".

if i'm trucking too slow for you , and you're in a car ,

TOUGH :D

Check out the other link within the posted one for the women runing on the motorway:cuckoo:

The cops are fannying around coz they are on the telly and the women nearly pay the price for softly softly tactics

It was cctv. The cops did all they could, if they had done any more one of them would have ended up under a truck and probably not been as lucky.

What he said!

I'm a trucker and proud!
How about all the cars that pull out in front of a truck thinking they can make it, or try and cut inside on a left turn even though the truck is indicating and turning left!
Would you really like 44t up ya a**e!
Until you have experienced what it is like to actually drive one I suggest people think about what they are saying!

I'm not saying that ALL truckers are saints and never do anything wrong, but the first thing my mind when Im driving is to avoid accidents and get to where Im going safely!

my trucks keys are hung up for three days. ahahahaha.
i nearly got a citroen this morning.
DONT PULL OUT ONTO A ROAD ,INFRONT OF A LORRY DOING 50MPH.
you may cack your pants, IF YOUR LUCKY.
this guy did.
fortunately i was on a two laner and there was room to move out of his way.
about 30 mph difference in speeds, at four inches from his door handle . what a tw@

A50 last night, tool came down the slip road, slowed down and then just came into the 1st lane, then slowed down even more to flash the guy in front of him on the slip road onto the 1st lane.I had traffic alongside and nowhere to go,so had to jump all over the brakes.Do these people not realise how long it takes to stop a freighted class 1 HGV?

hmm lorries...well...in line with the story above...when you indicate and 'hope that the car behind has seen you' and he cant actually pull out himself because there is half a mile of traffic coming, and your going to be doing 56mph all the way past the lorry in front of you doing 56mph, dont be surprised when you get the V's cos hes had to slam on the brakes...70mph to 56mph in a car is quick, but not everyone reacts as quick...

m26...2 lanes...2 lorries, both limited to 56mph...and it takes nearly a mile to overtake...there are cars behind the lorry in the fast lane, lots and lots and lots of them, all capable of doing the speed limit. have a little thought for them and just stay in the left lane!!

all other lorry drivers are fine.

i propose lorries being banned from overtaking other lorries apart from at junctions, and only then so they get out of the way of traffic coming onto the motorway...

/fans flames

On the occassions I'm taking it easy on the motorway and cruising at 56mph (according to my speedo) in my car, if a lorry overtakes I back off abit and allow him to overtake quicker and flash him when it's safe to move back in. A little courtesy hurts no one and keeps the traffic moving.
My dislikes are :-
1. Motorists who fail to move out to an empty third lane stopping me from moving into the middle lane to overtake when I've indicated and given them more than enough warning of my intention.
2. Motorists who after having overtaken me and moved back into the inside lane, then slow down and cause me to brake for no reason. What the hell is that all about.
3. Motorists who overtake, then hog the centre lane but have great difficulty in maintaining their speed and slow down.
4. Motorists who fail to accelerate on a slip road to join another road.
5. Motorists who whilst obeying the law to answer their mobile phone, decide to stop on a slip road.

Good, got that off my chest.
Breath and relax.

:plusone:
I'm sick of getting stuck behind lorries doing all they can, limited to 56, to get past another lorry, also limited to 56, uphill, flat out, and getting nowhere. I'm also sick of lorries pulling out on me. Car drivers can be muppets, but truck drivers don't seem to give a rat's a$$ about cars. I don't mean to tar all truckers with the same brush, but IMO it's the majority that cause the problem, not the minority.

why dont you all who think lorry drivers are at fault try and take the time to spend a few hours with one, I for one would be glad to show people what we have to go through day in day out.

I'm almost sure those "lorry driver criticisers" will see things in a different light once they have experienced it!

I know what it's like for you truckers, but even that doesn't excuse you pulling out on cars and holding up an entire dual carriage way so you can gain 50 yards.

obviously you dont,
the reason we do is to keep up the momentum when carrying a load, there's nothing worse than getting slowed down and having to go all the way back down the box, this is how the traffic is slowed, if you realised that and let the lorry out then it will get past the other one in a quicker time thus allowing the traffic to continue!

Jesus wept, do you people not read the thread before posting?

I am sure this has all been covered in previous threads, and it is just going around in circles in this one now.

Have a good Christmas y'all!
