I noticed my D70s has version 1 of the firmware and the Nikon site has version 2 available. I'm following the instructions to install, namely:

Quick guide for download and installing this firmware
  1. Download and expand the firmware files.
  2. Format an approved memory card in the camera (Microdrives cannot be used).
  3. Connect D70 to computer (in MSC USB mode) or use a CF Card Reader (if copying the firmware upgrade to memory card, do not use a Lexar Media JumpShot USB cable as the D70 firmware update may not be performed correctly).
  4. Copy one of the downloaded files “AD700200.bin” (A firmware) or “BD700200.bin” (B firmware) to the top level of the card . Do not copy both files to the card at the same time.
  5. Disconnect the camera from the computer.
  6. Turn the camera on, press the "Menu" button and select "firmware Ver".
  7. Follow the camera's on-screen menus.
  8. At completion of upgrade turn the camera off.
  9. Repeat steps 2 - 7, to perform the second firmware update.
  10. Re-format Card.

But something is not quite right as the version seems not to update. I connect the camera to the PC after formating the card (which does not remove the file called NIKON001.DSC adjacent to the DCIM folder) and then turn the camera on. I copy and past a .bin file over, turn camera off, disconnect and then turn the camera back on. I navigate to the firmware option and it still says v1.0

The only thing I might not be getting right is the MSC USB mode ...what is this and how do I check I'm in it? Any tips? I've tried both A and B .bin files and nothing works. Once I've copied one to the camera, even if I reformat it remains on the card seemingly doing nothing. Grrrrrrr:shrug:

I have a D70s and I just logged into Nikon and can find NO information about updated firmware. Are you SURE its an update for that camera, not for one of the others? Where did you find it, let me see if I can see where I am meant to be looking.

:bonk:

Thanks ... I stupidly assumed the differences between the cameras were such that the firmware would be identical ... on that note I think I need some sleep!

Thanks for your help:thumbs:
