Hey guys. Im really into street photography and wildlife, birds etc..

Now this is the non IS lens. Even with the shutter speed at 500 some of my images look blury and are stuttery.. I have a picture to explain this.

My 55-250 lens never did it :(

I also changed my focus point to the centre only to see if that worked and it hasnt :/.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks

Could be front/back focusing. Stop down to F8 or so and see if they're sharper.

Hi Nick,

To really nail a shot like this you need to keep the shutter speed up way above 1/200th unless you have a really good technique. I suspect that the IS of the 55-250 was really helping you keep things sharp.

Just keep the shutter speed up and practice, practice, practice! Going from IS lenses to non IS can take a bit of time and practice to get things right, especially if you have only shot with IS enabled kit in the past.

I had a similar problem with my 70-200mm (non is) but managed to work out the cause last weekend. It turns out (in my case) to be the uv filter. I couldn't figure out why my recent 55-250mm appeared sharper but just thought it was my technique. I swapped the uv for a cpl and then forgot to put the uv back on. It made a massive difference to the results i was getting.

I agree with daugirdas, 1/200 isn't fast enough to reliably freeze the motion in the photo posted. 1/500 as you mention won't be fast enough in some circumstances either.

Maybe you're just going through a phase of learning the lens? Practicing your panning with moving subjects can help a lot.
