trouble getting my new rf602 system working! what am i missing?

hi all, i just took delivery of an rf602 trigger and 2 receivers. I've put the trigger on the camera and the receiver on the flash. I've set them both to the same channel (1101) and they're both on and lighting up when i press/half press etc but my flash just isn't firing when i press the camera shutter button. The flash is an sb700, camera is d700.

Am i missing something really really obvious. I'm not using any cables and the flash is in remote mode. Thanks :bonk:

dosent the flash need to be in "standard" mode if i use triggers i always leave the flash as normal this is with sony gear though could be different
