okiedokey i really really need a new tripod, my current one is less use than a chocolate fireguard.

not got much to spend tbh, what do people recommend, for use for landscapes and stuff.

I have a Manfrotto 725B :) It's about £80 or so. It's small(ish), and light, with a ball head and quick release, but it doesn't go really low and isn't as flexible as a 055 for example. Is that the kind of price you're looking at spending? or less? :)

There are a few threads in the 'Cameras, Lenses and Accessories' forum about this :) Essentially you need to decide what you're really looking for. Does it need to be light weight, compact, strong, flexible (ie moving the legs to lots of angles to get low), ball head, 3way, etc...

But with Manfrotto you have the digi range (upto about £80), then the 190, and after that the 055. 055 is basically a stronger and bigger 190. With the 190/055 you have the addition of the head to take into account (probaby about £40), so it ends up being at least £100.

you can get 190D and 390rc2 kits for £95

the 190d is a basic tripod with screw clamp legs and no soft hand grips on the legs.

Just picked up a Velbon Sherpa 600, really smooth and single lock for tilt and pan.
The legs also spread so you can get down to about 12" off the floor!

It is however heavier than a plastic one, but much more stable.

I have just ordered myself one of these, as I'm impressed by how small they fold up (ForbiddenBiker, this is all your fault!) Perfect for what I need it for :) although may be a little too 'lightweight' for some.

I have a 190, its great. :D

The new manfrotto modo range looks good with it's new joy skick head, not sure about the weight of your kit though, so check the combo you choose is up to the task.
