Right, I've been told that I shouldn't go cheap on a tripod, and that around £100 will do me good. Only problem is that the town that I live in has 1 photography shop, Jessops, which have tripods ranging only up to £54.99.

To me, that on looked pretty good, it was sturdy folded up fairly small, went high enough for me and had a spirit level and yeah... Basically, what will it be missing that will be vital and can you point me in the direction of a decent tripod!?

I'm working with all types of photography at the moment as I'm a beginner and don't want to settle too quickly into one niche, so it has to be useable in all sorts of environments! Any help much appreciated!!

For your budget, try Redsnapper - they're sold by a member on here called Joe

Just go onto the For Sale section and look down and there'll be loads of feedback for their tripods. TP members get a 10% discount too!

I've orderd a Redsnapper TRI-283 Tripod and RS-528 3-Way Head Kit from Joe today after reading all the positive comments on here and it was under £65 as part of the special offer.
Joe seems a top bloke, really looking forward to getting my first decent tripod :)

You've made a wise choice - you will be impressed with quality when you open the box!! :)

If you wanted to buy from jessops for whatever reason you could order online and collect instore. I think delivery is free that way.

Another vote for Redsnapper here.

the cheaper ones wont be as sturdy basically. i would guess the cheaper ones have cross beams on the legs to strengthen them up whereas the more expensive ones wont so you can spread the legs further apart to get closer to the ground(for macro etc).

Redsnapper Redsnapper Redsnapper!

For the money you get an amazing amount of extras, a quality carrying bag, an extra central column which is small to get the legs spread right out and retractable foot spikes.

At your budget it is the ideal choice. Oh, the service from Redsnapper is fantastic as well.

Another vote here for Redsnapper.

Though just one little gripe, the tripod with 3 way head doesnt fit into the provided bag!

But for 65 quid, absolute bargain for a superb piece of kit.

I have the Redsnapper legs with a Manfrotto 486 head which can be had for about £40-£45. The legs fit into the included bag with the head attached. Incidentally, I was out taking photos at sunest today in my front garden. I was very impressed with the Redsnapper legs, I was shooting 30 second exposures with the tripod sitting in a pretty strong wind. With the spikes down I had the legs pushed tight into the lawn and the whole set-up seemed rock solid. This was the result, no post processing apart from slight sharpening on DPP

I recently bought a Camlink Pro28A tripod, it was in jessops for about £20 or £30 more than it was on Uk Digital website, I placed the order online with UK Digital (camlink Pro24A) and the next day they phoned me to say it was out of stock, however they offered me the bigger brother version (TP28A) for the same price so ended up coming away with a £90 Tripod (@ Jessops) for £48!! from UK Digital.

Oh and it is very well built, a bit on the heavy side but then you know it aint gonna move and it`ll last you ages.
