I am thinking of going to Kew Gardens shortly and know they have a thing about tripods in greenhouses.

Doing some research on their website today I found this:

Permission is required for:

any photography needing a tripod in the glasshouses;

any painting requiring an easel in the glasshouses.

Both are only possible on weekdays. Please contact:

Do I take it to mean they're not too keen on tripods at weekends possilbly because of it being busier? Anyone got any experience of this?

I would take that as no tripods at the weekend at all. Worth asking, but that`s how I read it.

What about a monopod?

I think monopod's are great :)

Would be better to have one of them around there anyway because you can use it as if it was a swift walking stick :)

Anyone remember swift walk 'n' wear??

Tony :thumbs:

I assume it is because the greenhouses obviously have paths and they don't want these blocked by tripods when it is busy.

I have been in the glass houses at Kew, and the tripod rule makes sense, the paths through the plant area are quite narrow and when its busy its hard to even stop in some places to take hand held photos. it would be nightmare for everyone if a tripod was stuck on the pathways, i am surprised they would allow it all.

Well worth a visit, but i would leave it until at least April/May before you visit to see the it at its best as there will be plenty of scope to use a tripod in the grounds.

Enjoy your visit
