Anyone any good ideas as to what they use to prevent bruised shoulder syndrome?

Carrying a tripod long distance over one shoulder you mean?

I use a camera backpack and open the tripod legs so one leg is either side of my head, most of the weight then sits on the backpack and I've never had a bruised shoulder as a result

My usual backpack camera bag has a tripod pocket built in so I usually use that. If I'm using a different bag, I usually use either a strap on the tripod itself or a length of 22mm pipe insulation that I've had for donkey's years.
