Apologies if this has been done before, i did have a bit of a search but couldnt really find any answers..i have a bit of a dilemma as to whether to get a tripod or monopod, mainly for landscape shooting and probably a bit of other random stuff. i want something that can be carried around without being too obtrusive - would a monopod be more suited to that? anyone got any pro's or con's relating to either? any advice would be much appreciated.
Ta very much :D

Get a tripod. Monopods are usefull for helping with the weight of long lenses etc, but for landscapes shots a tripod will be much more usefull. If you want really light and unobtrusive (At the cost of stability) Then maybe have a look at the Manfrotto modo range.

I agree. I use my monopod to support heavy lens' when shooting sports and always a tripod for landscapes.

I have both, but will only use the tripod for landscape, especially when you realise that the light is best at the beginning and end of the day which equates to long shutter speeds on a small aperture. Taking all of that into account, you will far more sharp pictures using a tripod.

For general walkabout e.g. Whipsnade Zoo meet last week, I used a monopod for the first time and was perfect to set up quickly and take shots with a heavier lens.

Its perhaps easier to consider that a tripod will fully support a camera and lens without intervention from you.

A monopod, whilst able to support wieght, still needs intervention from you to stay upright. Whilst you have a pulse and have to breathe there will continue to be movement transmitted through to the camera.

I'm not sure what camera system you have, but there are some great deals out there at the moment - i just bought a tiny tripod based on Adam and Tristans recommendations for using specifically in town (it will only manage a camera and light lens, but the best advise you will hear is that "the best tripod is the one that you take out with you") - Velbon luxi SF, £50 from WE, folds down to pocket size and up to about 1.6m
