tripod/monopod crossbar

I got exactly that from elemental, but a lot cheaper. Cant see it listed on their website now though, might be worth an email?

My 131DD was about £60 from Morris, but a few years ago and they had to order it. You can get a double female adapter to use the 131 to extend your tripod column vertically, too.

my thought is to mount on a monpod for (Canon) 1Dmk3+400mm f2.8; 5Dmk2+70-200 f2.8L
don't would it work...

If I remember rightly the whole setup Leon Neil used came from 3 legged thing, a sister company of Elemental so he probably used the same one you have.

Probably.
They used to sell it separately too. I got the cross bar with all the mounts, plus the laptop table for something silly like £40.

I am writing to 3leggedthing to see if they have got any.
May I convince you to lent/sell me yours :D if fail to get one - need one this weekend.

reply from 3leggedthing:
We used to supply a cross beam for our tripods, but we no longer have these
items in stock and won't be getting any more in.

b****r :(

Yeah, I worked closely with the people at 3leggedthing to create the "Behemoth" for the big day. It wasn't something that they planned on producing but were providing to me as one of their 3LT pros.

Just for the record, as you can see from the shot linked below, it held a 600mm f4, a D3s, a D3x and a 300mm f2.8 plus two pocket wizards. Quite a tough little thing!

As has been pointed out above, the crossbar is available elsewhere and should work with major tripod brands (although obviously not as well as a 3LT...) ;)

Welcome Leon! I have been following your blog. Congratulations for all the good works!

I purchased a Chinese knock-off of the Manfrotto bar on ebay several years ago. It is no longer listed on eBay but, the price was fairly inexpensive (or I would not have purchased it).

My rationale for the purchase was to use three cameras with three different focal length lenses for wildlife photography at the Bosque del Apache National Wildlife refuge below the City of Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. This is a primo place to shoot wildfowl which concentrate in that area during late November to February.

I set up the three cameras wearing 70-200mm (at 200mm), 300mm and 400mm lenses with the cameras boresighted to shoot approximately the same point at infinity. I used a heavy duty Manfrotto fluid pan tripod head on a sturdy Giottos tripod. I taped remote release switches to the pan handle so I could fire any of the three lenses or all three of them if I desired.

I was not able to make trip to the wildlife Refuge but, the setup worked quite well in testing. Hopefully, I will be able to travel there within the next few years.
