Might sound like a bit of an odd question but here we go.

I've got two rather cheap tripods which I tend not to use since buying my lovely Manfrotto, but I feel because of the length of their legs compared to my light stand (which have 1 of), they tend to provide a little more stability outdoors.

However the screw on top of the tripod which is used to mount the camera is too short to be able to attach a flashgun holder/bracket such as this one for instance:

Is there such thing, or does anybody have any make-do methods of adapting the screw on a tripod to accommodate a flashgun bracket?

using a tripod would limit you. Especially if taking photos of people as you would not get the light at face level or above them.. they will also be bulkier to carry.. There are shorter (at minimum length) light stands that would be better.. Made for the job too.

I have used a small telescopic tripod when using direct flash, but that was only a bodge...

Got one of those yesterday, my softbox is now sitting on top of my tripod...good for £3..

Now wishes I wasn't the first to reply LOL...

That's alright though surely? All opinions are valid, it's up to the OP to decide which to take but sometimes people spot thing outside the normal practice.

I bought cheap lightweight light stands which work great until it's slightly windy and you have a brolly attached...

even a big expensive stand won't be stable outside with a big brolly without a sandbag :)

Manfrotto do one that works the other way too. £13 though :)

Not sure what they're called, but does anyone use those weight things energetic people put on their wrists and (or) ankles ? I'm sure I saw someone using them on a lightstand. Never did ask them !

Wrist and ankle weights. I thought about them when I was reading the Argos catalogue on the loo and it just opened at that page, seemed a cheap way of weighting them down. The actual light stand weights are silly expensive!

What an excellent idea

Another way is to get some of the cast iron bar weights and cut a slit from the edge to the centre with a grinder. It will then sit on the leg supports at the bottom of the centre upright and a heavy one will make it very stable.
