I've bought myself a Manfrotto MT055CXPRO3 tripod which arrived today but I'm not very happy with it, the reason being is that the rubber hand warmers are missing and the bag it came in has no sealing tag, the help I need is from anyone who has also bought one recently if their tripod came with these on their tripod please, thanks.

Sean.

I have the same one and i think it's only the Aluminium version that comes with the grips as that version is effected by the colder conditions unlike the carbon fibre version,as for the bag i don't know what you mean by sealing tag?

When you say `hand warmers`, do you mean the wrap around foam type pads?

If so, I don't think it comes with them (looking at a few sites) Where did you purchase from?

If you look at a lot of high end tripods none of those come with foam insulation, Carbon isn't a cold material. If you really want it a length of foam pipe insulation and a couple of zip ties does the job nicely.

My carbon fibre Giotto tripod has foam on three legs and it cost half that.
Carbon fibre may not be as cold as Aluminium but on a frosty morning/night it is cold enough.

What diameter are the legs? You may be able to fashion one from copper tube insulation foam? The stuff that plumbers use.

The carbon manfrotto tripods don't come with any foam on the upper legs (photos on their website show that). I recent purchased a gitzo carbon tripod that doesn't have any foam on the upper legs. It's not really a problem, carbon doesn't get as cold as aluminium, and if the carbon fibre has managed to get cold I'm most likely to be wearing gloves. My first manfrotto 055 aluminium tripod had the foam grips but I can't say I've missed them at all over the years since I replace it with a carbon fibre version. The lighter weight was a greater benefit than foam grips.

There are two options if you want some foam padding, like others have said use pipe insulation foam or purchase some neoprene leg wraps from the likes of wildlife watching supplies.

By sealing tag on the bag do you mean zip or toggle)? I don't think the manfrottos come with a proper carry bag as such (my gitzo didn't-manfrotto and fit on are owned by the same company), they usually come with a dust cover bag for storage. Some want a proper carry bag some don't so they are often not include one as standard as otherwise you could be paying for something you don't want and ends up in the cupboard with the box. You can purchase tripod bags, there are many choices of length and padded/unpadded (another reason they don't come as standard is the choice and personal preference). I first purchased one about 5-6 years ago, I've never used it for carrying the tripod. It's mostly sat unused in the cupboard for 5 years (it was too big for the carbon 055) until I purchased the gitzo a few months back, now it sits in the car boot and stores the tripod when not in use.

I've always wrapped a bit of cling film around the leg and gaffer taped over that. Just overlap the top and bottom of the tape a half inch to stick it to the tripod. That way if you want to sell the tripod or it gets tatty you onle have to clean the half inch strip of sticky stuff not the whole leg.

The instruction booklet that came with the tripod states clearly that the rubber made leg warmers are one of the main features, I suppose I was having a bit of a melt down moment with the shop I bought it from in the form of a delivery dispute so when I came across this issue I was going in all guns blazing, the tripod is in actual fact brilliant and the build quality is awesome, the delivery dispute? allow me to explain,
I paid the seller on Thursday the 22nd, I paid an extra £5 for it to be delivered today the 27th, as I was going to be out all day yesterday the 26th, while I was out yesterday I received a whole load of texts informing me the tripod was in transit and was going to be delivered between 10-11 am yesterday, I was driving and unable to stop as I was on the motorway and reply to the texts, the thing which really fired me up was the delivery driver left it with some guy who was working in the house next door to me which is uninhabited at the moment, he could have walked off with it, but he had a brain and was honest and left it with my other neighbour as he was only working at the house for an hour or so, I think the delivery driver was just trying to get all his parcels delivered so he didn't have to work on a Sunday, (today) I've contacted the seller to hear what they've got to say about it all, all in all, I'm not happy with the seller and think it only fair they off me a refund for the extra £5 I paid for Sunday delivery.

I have the 55 in both aluminium and carbon fibre. Only the aluminium version has the foam covers.

Is the instruction booklet for both the aluminium and carbon fibre models or is it the model you have? Have you bought this new or second handfrom eBay or a shop/internet website?

Edit: I've downloaded the instruction booklet from the manfrotto website. I can see why you thought there should be some. It does mention hand warmers as a feature, it looks like they forgot to mention that only applies to the aluminium version. The instruction booklet I downloaded covers both aluminium and carbon fibre models.

The good thing is it has all worked out.

I would contact the seller but be polite and calm about it especially as you don't know if it's the seller or the delivery firms fault. If the seller didn't arrange the Sunday delivery but charged extra for it then the seller is at fault, if they arranged and paid extra for Sunday delivery then its the delivery firm that's at fault. Overall it is the sellers problem to sort out but if you are polite and calm you will most likely get a better response than you would if you rant at them.

It sounds like the delivery is more the delivery driver wanting to get all parcels delivered and didn't care who signs for them. I can understand this is because they have to deliver a silly amount of parcels in one day with many people not there to receive them. The problem is most people want very cheap delivery, which is means high volume to make ends meet. I had a missed delivery once where a card was left for me with the surname 'Street', 3 days later a neighbour 4 doors up came round with the parcel and said it had just been left on his doorstep whilst he was out and thought I would come around to collect it.

Why the delivery firms do a delivery to a hub option I'm not sure. It would be quick/easy for them and stop parcels going missing.the hubs could easily be a local shop.

The temperature will be the same for carbon fibre and aluminium but each absorbs heat through conductivity at different rates this may feel like different temperatures but it is not.
Heat and temperature are different.

contact the seller and tell them whats missing that would be my first stop !!

My carbon 190 go tripod has none, not really something I miss.

Also bag/box did not have sealing tags.

All in all now I have used it for a bit I can't fault it, plus it's pretty compact.

Sorry about the late reply guys, yep you right guys the carbon version has no leg warmers although as has already been mentioned they are a key feature, I did manage to contact the seller (Uttings) they were totally understanding and apologetic and refunded me the full postage cost as a good will gesture, I couldn't argue with that, even though it was DPD who were at fault, so alls well that ends well.

:agree: I would use the clingfilm and then possibly consider buying some tennis racquet grip to go over if you want something with a bit of cushion.

Great idea mate, I'm a bit anal about my equipment and like to keep things looking good, I'll look on eBay for tennis racquet cushion grip, thanks.

Iv used Vetrap bandages on my kit before sticks to itself and leaves no marks and cheap

Handle bar tape for road bikes could be another option, especially if you are after a certain colour.

IMO don't bother. Aluminium acts as a heat sink so would suck the heat out of your hand, whereas carbon fibre doesn't.

The only problem with carbon fibre is its a bit slippery when you wear gloves, I do think I'm going to get some kind of wrap to stop me loosing grip on my beloved tripod lol.
