Hi, I've got a Tripod which the camera attaches to no problem But I've also brought a handheld stabilser which attaches to the tripod so that I can use my tablet as an external monitor the problem is though that the sleds on the handheld stabilser when its attached to the quick release plate are stopping the quick release plate being reinserted into the tripod head.

Now because I can't narrow the head of the tripod or widen the gap between the legs on the stabiliser. I need something to increase the height between the stabiliser and the tripod but I have no idea what it would be called I've tried so far

tripod height adjuster
tripod height extender
quick release plate height adjuster
tripod cushion

I'm probably missing something by trying to overthink it and its probably called something really simple but I just can't think of it right now.

here's the stabiliser

I think the clue is in your first line, "Hand Held". Camera on the thing or on the tripod, not the thing on a tripod. For what you want to do a full blown cage might be a better option.

Yeah, when i brought it one of the pictures showed it attached to a tripod its the reason I brought it.

As I'm going to be attaching my tablet via the hot shoe connector to the top as an external monitor

You could try a search using the words 'tripod mount spacer' and see if that shows anything that might be suitable? Do try to find something solid and well made if you do go down that route, as you'll have a lot of money (and weight) sitting on top of it!

If it's made of poor-quality and/or weak materials (beware of fake products) and snaps or shears off then all the kit mounted on it could end up smashing on the floor, falling into the sea, off the top of a building into the crowd below, etc. (delete as applicable)! Perhaps safer to find a suitable bracket that fits your tripod and doesn't need a spacer or adapter?

If I do that the flash won't fire though will it?

I guess that depends on where your flash is and how you are triggering it.
There was no mention of flash in the OP but if you are using the flash on the hot shoe surely the top of the bracket will be getting in the way and if using off camera flash I'm sure you can get wireless triggers with a passthrough hotshoe.

I was thinking the same about the flash and enough room to fit it in.
Just had a look and my cheapo Yongnuo triggers have a hot shoe fitting (female) on the top, might be the way to go

Would you not be better with something like this?

This securely holds the tablet and clamps to the tripod leg. Much lower center of gravity and less likely to get accidentally bashed about.
The though of having a tablet mounted on the top of a less than stable and flimsy looking hotshoe mount just brings to mind expensive equipment failures.

Not sure what to suggest but the picture you posted is odd ~ the camera is reversed (i.e. anyone wanting a left handed camera ~ this shows the answer) and it does make me wonder if it has been Photoshopped in rather than shows and actual setup!

do you know I hadn't actually realised that seriously well spotted. The good news is I've managed to get it to fit the tripod, the bad news is I can't get the flaming tablet to connect the way I want it to. At the moment I can take a picture/series of pictures and then connect the tablet to view them in the gallery. Which is great but I wanted to use the video out on the camera to use the tablet for all the settings as well which just isn't happening. The camera's capable of it and when I plug in the video out it is sending the signal but for some reason the tablets refusing to show it. I may need to try another approach.

I shall not be beaten (I may eventually announce a strategic tactical withdrawal though)
