hi i'm going to usa for three weeks and want a lightweight tripod as space is limited, probably one of the redsnapper models. I just dont know what tripod head to go for? I am relatively new to photography and wondered if anyone had any advice!
thanks

on a serious note- what's your budget, and what do you like photographing?

When I travel I use a Giottos MH 1302-655. It is a very small ballhead, weighing about 300g, yet is rated to 8kg. It is fitted with an Arca style clamp, thus is ideal for my uses. I think it also came with a QR plate, but I don't use it. I use it on an equally tiny yet strong Gitzo travel tripod. The whole set-up weighs 1.3kg, folds to about 40cm, and will comfortably hold any wide-angle lens, as well as a 400mm f5.6 or equivalent.

Hope this helps

I take it you mean you want a lightweight and compact tripod because weight and space are limited?
Redsnapper tripods aren't particularly light so your definition of lightweight is different to mine.
Advice depends on many details you haven't supplied-you haven't stated weight of the kit you're going to use with it and what shots you're going to take i.e. how is the tripod going to be used? You also haven't stated a budget?

As for tripod head- many people prefer 3way heads for landscapes but it comes down to personal preference- landscape shots can be taken with ball heads. I like to use both- just make sure it takes the weight of kit whichever you go for.
