I am now the owner of a fine set of macro focussing rails courtesy of my wife for xmas  (They are like the adorama macro rails)

Now I know that my current ballhead is simply not cut out for macro work - the quick release plate is simply too small for my rails for one (Manfrotton RC2). So it is time for a new head.

I'm contemplating a redsnapper 3 way head but before I stump up (As I will probably buy the tripod & head deal if I do) are there any better heads for a similar price?

I use the redsnapper ball with a Nikon PB-6 and i have no problems so far .

wow, one hell of a setup there!

Is that mounted on a quick release plate?
Also when framing how much precision do you get with the ball? I find wiht my manfrotto ball I get slight camera movement after I have tighteneded everything up...

I have the 488 head already - do you find it moves much after being tightened?
I wonder if the fact the 150mm lens is a bit heavier makes a difference.
