Howdy,

So I have an old Manfrotto 190D tripod that I'm looking to kit out with some camouflage (it is silver after all). I was looking at the make-up of the tripod and trying to figure out how the camo works operationally - that is when I'm adjusting the legs how does the camo move .. or perhaps it doesn't .. or perhaps the camo gear I've been looking at only works on certain types of tripod?

I've blown most of my camera-related-goodies budget this year so while a new (for life) tripod is on the cards .... it may have to wait until my lottery numbers come up :) Until then I'm looking to make my existing tripod a bit more discrete.

A number of companies sell the stuff www.lenscoat.com www.wildlifewatchingsupplies.co.uk to name just two. There are more. Most people, myself included that use Camo only put it around the top leg section.

You can get it for the lower legs but it's fiddly and almost impossible to open/close the tripod with it on so I for one don't bother. The reason I use it is more for protection than anything else as I use a Series 5 Gitzo and it makes it more comfortable if slung on my shoulder. I don't think birds or other wildlife are really bothered either way to be honest especially if at a distance.

Material is normally 2-3mm neoprene with Velcro fitting, and when on your tripod it doesn't or shouldn't move. I used WWS originally but found it moves/spins on the legs too easily. Lenscoat on the other hand no problem but does cost a bit more.

As I said, there are other companies out there and of course FleaBay!

Your local gunshop will probably have adhesive camo tape but buy the cloth variety rather than the plastic.
 
how about hydrographics loads of different camo designs
