Hi,looking for a tripod,i dont want to spend a fortune £30 to £50 region have being looking at the Velbon CX-640 has anyone had experience of this,or any other suggestions. Ta very much

It'll do the trick if you just want a cheap tripod, but don't expect too much from it; it's made mostly from plastic, with the legs and centre column being aluminium, and the build quality isn't great. If you want a longer lasting and sturdier tripod for slightly more money I'd recommend a Velbon Sherpa 600 or something similar. Or for a little bit more still, a Redsnapper or Slik Pro 700 DX. I have the former and it's brilliant :)

I picked up a cheap Velbon CX-440 a few weeks back. For what I use it for (very little) its perfect. Might be a bit plasticy, but nice and lightweight to carry, quick to extend and set up and ideal for what I use it for.

If I used a tripod more often however I'd certainly go for something a bit sturdier.

I've got the Velbon CX-640 and am pleased with it. I rarely use it, and when I do, it's more than adequate for my needs. It doesn't weigh a ton either which is nice.

(the best bit is I bought it from eBay for £1.20! It was like new too . OK, so postage was £6, but I could live with that...)

Cheers all, i will carry on looking around at different ones, the reason i dont want to spend a lot is cos i dont know how much i will use it.

I use a Velbon 560 cost £40 from Warehouse Express a few months back. I don't use it a lot but when I do it's more than adequate from my needs. It is reasonably light and came with it own shoulder bag. If you've got a £50 budget then 1st of all I'd look on Ebay. You'll get something halfway decent for probably half that.

Finally decided on a Velbon 435 sherpa, ex-display off e.bay for £45 + p+p.
Thanks all for advice.

I know this in an old thread but, if your still on here how have you got on with it? Or has anyone else got this tripod.

It's reduced on warehouse express Velbon Sherpa 435 Tripod and PHD-41Q 4-Way Head

I need one for motorsport events, also wanting to get night time/long exposure shots. So it needs to be light and sturdy. Will be using with my d40 and 18-55 & 55-200 lenses. Might occasionally hire out a larger lens.

I realise it's not the cheapest but you get what you pay for!

Thanks

It is nowhere near the most expensive either, would have thought the redsnapper would be the better option in that price range, seems to be all the rage on here
