Most of you know the kind of shots I like to take. Close up flower and plant stuff, some landscape and other odds and sods. Well I want to buy a tripod that will best serve my needs. I don't want to spend more than fifty quid so any advice for me please :D
 
Thanks for the information sounds like a good deal and a decent tripod but I'm a novice as far as that's concerned :)
 
You could even try selling the "free" 797 on Fleabay, might help bring the price down even more :D
 
From the little I've learned researching tripods I would say save more money. ;)

What kind of weight are you planning on putting on the tripod and what size are you expecting to print?
 
My 400d and either my kit lens or nifty fifty so nowt too heavy. Not sure on print size.
 
i too would second saving a bit more money and getting a decent tripod, you won't regret it... take it from someone who knows.... i'm now on my fourth tripod and wished i'd listened to the advice i was given and saved myself some money...
 
i spent more and got the Slik Pro DX340 and it seems great, not used ir yet though
 
I would tend to agree that buying a "decent" tripod to start with is a far better investment than buying a cheaper one and then having to upgrade later. The trouble is to get something that will last well will require and investment of over £100.

My "walkabout" tripod is a Manfrotto 190 PROXB with a 486RC head which was about £125 all in and I also have the 055PROB with a 488 head which is far sturdier but a bit heavy for carrying about.

An alternative might be a decent monopod/head combo. Fifty quid would buy something decent, but obviously it's scope is a bit more limited than a tripod

Hi Maureen. I've got the Manfrotto 190XBPRO and the 804RC2 which is a lot above your budget, but quite honestly I'm not sure how much you would use something this good, due to the weight of it. It probably seems quite light to the strong men on here, but I find that I would only use it if going out in the car. For your needs I would think that some sort of mini tripod would be better. I would say that flash in the pans suggestion is a good one as this would give you a lightweight tripod for shooting landscapes, and a mini tabletop tripod for shooting flowers. I know that a lightweight tripod is not as stable as a PRO one, but at least you have more chance of taking it out with you. Mine has certainly not gone on a walk yet - it seems to weigh a ton.
 
I have the Manfrotto 758B, its a good tripod, lightweight and well built...

However there is one thing that makes me want to upgrade. The head is not sturdy enough to hold either my Sigma 70-300 or 24-105L lenses and always drops out of position when trying to take shots.
