Hello,
I live in France and I am planning a 10 day trip to Scotland around Easter. I've never been there so I would appreciate some help in planning. I'm thinking about splitting the 10 days into 3 parts with a different place to stay each time. Around Oban and Fort williams (4 days), Isle of Skye (3 days), Loch Lomand (4 days).
Am I going wrong somewhere. Is 3 days for the Isle of Skye too much ?
By the way, this is a family trip but I'm taking all the photo equipment I can carry !!
If you have any addresses for accomodation, I'd be happy to know about them too !
Thanks,
Nicolas.

When you go to Fort William, why not take a day to head west over towards Ardnamurchan. Go and see Portuairk beach, perhaps the lighthouse, Sanna bay and then head over to Tobermory from the ferry.

It's a beautiful place and I think you'll like it, and easily within "day trip" distance of Fort William.

Also have you considered Orkney/Shetland? I have been to Orkney some time ago now and it's a very nice place, the mentality of people up there seems totally different.

You could happily spend more than 3 days on Skye. Remember the Skye bridge is now free (no toll) so you can easily pop back and forth over to the mainland if you wanted to branch out a bit.

You'll have lots of options for trips based in Fort William / Oban so plenty to keep you busy. If it was me I'd probably look to spend less than 4 days around Loch Lomond and spend a few more days around Skye & Lochalsh.

Are you limited to the places you've mentioned or are you open to suggestions ?

Also - what sort of photography are you wanting to do ?

You will find this site handy......

Thanks for the quick replies !
Shetland/Orkney is veeerrryy far for me, I'm coming from France and already looking at 20 hours in the car with 3 children !
I'm open to suggestions of course. I'll look at staying longer in and around Skye then (4 days).
Should I then not visit Loch Lomond and spend 5 days in Oban and 5 days near Skye ?
I'm looking at landscape photography of course... and I'm open to suggestions also. (Have a peek at my flickr!)

OK - bin Shetland and Orkney - but I would seriously advise you to visit Ardnamurchan. I am sure you could tie it in with your Fort William visit.

Ardnamurchan is very nice and well worth doing on a nice day.

Another area worth exploring (not too far North of Skye and Lochalsh) is Applecross and Torridon and little further North still - Inverpolly / Assynt / Sutherland.

Love the new user title mate :lol::lol:

Scotland is an INCREDIBLE place.
Only been there once, but I loved every second.

Here's my flickr set from our weekend up there:

Most of them are from Glenshiel, Skye, Tomdoun (for the Stags!) and Glencoe (a STUNNING place).

Thanks for the feedback, I'll certainly be looking at all your suggestions.
Andy, great pictures on the flickr. I'm so impatient to get there !

loch lomonds full of tourists, and while you are a tourist yourself, you dont wanna be sharing your views with busloads of people, its beautiful there but 4 days might become annoying, plenty great stops between loch lomond and fort william, kinghouse at the top of glencoe could be a possibility, free camping on other side of bridge, cheap bunkhouse or hotel rooms, depending on your budget and the scenery is stunning.

also wigwams at tyndrum for another place to stay, beside an old stone railway bridge, very photogenic
