Yes
So last night I dug out some 35mm negs from WAY back when and seeing those images I am of the opinion (more than ever before) that we truly lost it when the world went digital.

MOst of us shot crappy bodies with cheap-n-nasty lenses, hardly ever printed larger than the odd A4 and yet got magical results at the time...

Can't wait for my MF and LF toys to arrive! Will put up one or two examples when home tonight.

Cheers all

I've been doing the same recently, I've printed a few negs I "missed" first time around.

35mm Neopan :)

So I dug up some negs that must have been shot in 1994 or so...some Pentax or Chinon camera and probably a model 1 mark 1 cheap-n-nasty zoom...possibly 28-80 or so

And a 100% crop from it:

9600 dpi scan absolutely bog standard off the 750.

Still battling to come to grips with the 750 that doesn't scan the full negative...

If you're using EpsonScan with neg strips, with my V700 I don't rely on it automatically recognising the frames and select them by hand.

FWIW, here's the oldest photo I have scanned at the moment, while my dad was washing our Bedford CF caravan outside our house.

Taken when I was fourteen, in January 1982, on Ilford HP5 with my Praktica PL nova I and, IIRC a 50mm f/2.8 Domiplan lens.

Great image, Musicman!

And from 1982? WOW!

While we are talking about memory lane... Here's one taken 28 years ago today. How do I know so exactly - er, well - it's my Birthday today, and I remember crossing the same rope bridge myself and thinking "Am I going to see another Birthday!"

It's not a particularly brilliant picture, but it means a great deal to me. The lad in the shot is my good friend and climbing partner Martin. Sadly, Martin came home from work 2 weeks ago, had his supper, curled up on the sofa to watch some TV and passed away in his sleep. I've been trawling my way through my photo collection scanning up pictures with a view to putting together a photo-book for his Family.

Sorry to hear about that! Condolences to you and all his family.

cheers Anton / Rob...

It's been a bit of a bad couple of weeks - as I said, he was a good mate, what I didn't say was he was actually my oldest friend - went back to the age of 11 years old (believe me - thats a LOOOONG time) - he's the bloke who got me into photography (he wanted to join the school photo-society, but was worried he couldn't cope with the "chemistry" part of it) - then We got into climbing - and I've lost count of the time's we saved each others neck doing that, in the UK, the Alps and further afield. Eventually after college he ended up as a pro-photographer, and I had a normal joe-job, but seconded for him, and helped out on bigger shoots. My only Wedding shoot was actually his kid sisters wedding, where I shot everything apart from the ones he wasn't in!

I even bought his kit from him just before he went bankrupt, then sold it back to him when he got out of financial difficulties for the same amount i'd paid...

He was a good friend, and my most respected (if harshest) critic and responsible for the bulk of the improvement I've made over the last couple of years of taking pictures. In this life, you make many aquaintances, a few mates, but only a couple true friends. Martin was a good friend, and the world it somewhat diminished from his absence.

And I've had too much wine with my birthday meal :)

Happy Birthday, Mark!

Saw this thread and dug these out... shot with my first Nikon - an F65 with a bloody great Sigma lens stuck on the front... It was on a visit to Germany in 2003...

Wallington piccies

That sainsburys has been there for a little while. Its always interesting to see pictures of old stomping grounds. I put up a picture of Raynes Park station onto flickr and someone posted back with one from about 30 years before, you could even spot where the now huge trees had just been planted.

Cheers, Anton! I had to lighten the steps at the front, and the sky - it wasn't quite as rich as that, but the lens was at it's widest and was vignetting like crazy, so I thought I'd make it a bit more dramatic... I was quite chuffed with it to.. and still am! Thank you :)

As for Wallington, Musicman... I used to live down the road in Purley!

I posted this in the way we were thread, I still love the photo of my 2 brothers and me. I reminds me how lucky I am and what a great health service we have.
