Hi all, looking for a bit of guidance.

I have a D90 with SB600 which I fire using CLS. However when I it alongside
my second flash (SB24) I pop ebay triggers/receivers onto both flashes.

The main restriction they have is the maximum shutterspeed is not quick
enough at times to kill the ambient light.

Using CLS on the SB600 is fine, so if I use that and then use a hotshoe
adapter and PC Sync cable to fire the SB24 will that give me a high flash
sync speed?

Cheers,

Dan

Another option would be using one of the optical slaves that ignores the TTL preflash on the foot of the SB24. Not sure if it would work with Auto FP, if that's what you're using to get the high shutter speed though...

Yep, I have FP enabled and can get it working with CLS right through to 1/4000, effectively turning day into night.

I'll get a second sb600 eventually but just tinkering at the mo.

So a sync cord will work with high FP enabled?

A PC cord is just a "dumb" connection, it only carries the firing signal, so I can't see any way in which it would work with TTL.

The flash will be on full manual so I don't need it to work on TTL, just enable to flash to operate sucesfully at higher shutter speeds.

I think you might still need a TTL lead because I think a basic lead will just fire the flash once, whereas the flash fires a number of times in FP to overcome issues with the slow moving curtain.

Doesn't the flash have to have a signal between the camera and itself to enable FP? I've just tried to set FP manually on my SB800 without the flash attached in any way to the camera and it won't open up the FP option. Attach it via an SC28 cable and FP appears as normal.

Just wondering if a SC27-type cable would offer the same capabilities or is that tpe of fitting just a different type of PC port?
