A friend has just pandered to his mid life crisis and treated himself to an Italian four wheeled thing.
I want to have a play with this and do him some nice images, most likely shoot will be in daytime but want a couple of shots low key with light accenuating certain features on the car, therefore looking to "overpower" the sun.
All studio lights are mains powered so not practical for location so want to do this with speedlights.
Normally just use older RF603 triggers for OCF but sure these do not support HSS.

What does everyone recommend for a cheap trigger that supports HSS, Canon or Nikon is fine.

Yongnuo YN622 (and get a TX, it offers much more flexibility), cheap, efficient, best bang for buck.

Only issue is that most speedlights when used in HSS are not powerful enough to overpower the sun, regardless of trigger.

^^^This. In daylight with HSS mode, speedlites will be hopeless for overpowering the sun. Either wait for evening, or hire some powerful location flash units (eg Elinchroms from The Flash Centre). Working in lower ambient light makes everything so much easier - obviously the flash doesn't have to be nearly so bright, and at the same time you won't need HSS mode that robs the gun of at least two stops of effective output so you get a double win.

I know Mike. Just playing really so will be experimenting with different things. Not really looking to overpower the sun (and we are talking autumnal scottish sun here!) but just dropping the ambient a few stops and using softened speedlights to "paint" certain aspects of the car.

One idea is to have the car in an derelict industrial type location, he really doesn't fancy bringing it to the rougher side of Glasgow at night !

Im no GF Williams but looking forward to something different, have done car shoots before but within showrooms, nice to get one on location.
