I have just ordered 2 Lencarta Smart Flashes for a basic home studio set up. I have a 6x7 hilite. I plan to light the Hilite with one of the smart flashes + a Nissin Di622 that I also have when required and the other smart flash as a key light with an umbrella. The question I have is I plan to buy a basic wireless trigger to fit into hot shoe of my D90 and trigger the flashes but will I need a receiver for each Individual flash or can I get away with one receiver and the other two flashes set to slave mode off the key light?

The trigger/receiver set I had been looking at was the RF-603 based upon a few decent reviews on here for a budget trigger/receiver.

What are people's thoughts? Thanks.

Yep, that will work.

If the hotshoe flashgun is triggered then, in theory, the SmartFlash heads will fire as slaves. Generally, this works reliably but it won't work unless the slave cell, fitted to the top of the SmartFlash, can receive enough light from the triggered flash. In a home studio with a white ceiling that isn't normally a problem, but can be a problem in larger studios, especially if the triggered flash happens to be fitted with a very directional modifier such as a snoot or a beauty dish.

Great, thanks Gary. It should be ok then as it will be set up primarily in a modest sized living room with white walls and ceiling.

I've been reading your posts with great interest for some time so I finally took the plunge to order the smart flashes with some Xmas money I was fortunate enough to receive. Looking forward to putting it all together and getting started.

I use the RF-603s with my Lencarta Ultrapro 300, Canon 430EX and Yongnuo flash....works flawlessly!

Excellent, I ordered a set yesterday so that's good to hear. It cost £22 for 2 transceiver set and another £6 for a sync cable. For that kind of money it was worth the punt either way.
