Hi all never tried to do a site before, so I thought I'd give it a go as so many of you are.
I know its not very good, but can you tell me if you can access it ok and do the gallery links work for you.
I only downloaded the software to do this a couple of hours ago, so theres not much there but I just wanted to see if it works

Your links in the left side column are very hard to see, blue on blue in not a good choice.

One thing that stands out is the typo differant, change it for different and you're there ;) I like your Moon plane shot

Sorry to add to spelling corrections, but as said correct spelling is of major importance for a more professional site. Looks good otherwise good luck with it :)

" I am a keen amateur Photographer from the south east of England, I mainly photograph

wildlife and have also tried some macro work, but I will be trying all sorts of different

subjects as I progress.

Please take some time to look through my galleries on the left, more images will be added in

due course.

Thank you for looking."

Hey, thats a pretty nice website you've got there considering its your first.

The layout is nice but I suggest you take a look at learning to code with XHTML and CSS, page builders make a good start because you can get pretty results, but if you look at the source for your page when it comes to updating something which needs you to add in your own code, it will be completely boggling. Once you're into hand coding pages you will know exactly how your page fits together to make it really easy to add in PHP scripts etc and you can get even better results that way.

But good luck with that site, I'm sure it will be a good home for you photos.

it will need some work, but web site's are really hard to do when you first try them.ive been doing them for years now and still make mistakes.you will get there and its looking pretty good now..

Thank you all for the C&C, I'm just chuffed that it actually works
Bumfluff I will look into the XHTML, I did try HTML stuff a few years ago, I will investigate this when I get the time.

XHTML is basically a standardised version of HTML so it makes your code easier to understand and its also easier to learn as you know how you should do things. Remember to check out CSS at the same time because XHTML and CSS go hand in hand, CSS just makes it very easy to change specific styling issues of your page very very quickly and it keeps it seperated from the rest.

Basically XHTML is for layout, CSS is to decide on your colours and widths etc.

Al;
I think its good for a beginner the basics are there, I run two web sites ( Not photography) which in the beginning had alot of suggestions from others but got there in the end.

Personaly if you are keeping the disign, I feel the Galleries & Useful links need to be a different colour red over blue do not go together well.
But then again i think the blue background is not a good choice as the center being white, Black surround with a dark grey centre would look good, then change the text to suit.

The AL'S PHOTO PAGE would look better in a different font, or even your own logo.

Just some ideas, not always for everybodies taste, look around get some ideas for colours..

Good Luck.

hi rocket
thanks for tips and advice, this was an exercise in can i do it and does it work, I downloaded the software and a couple of hours later there it was, I didn't even know if I was using the software right
I am already thinking about the next design and what i want it to do for me,the layout and design, I will be thinking about the C&C and advice given in this thread and take it from there,
