Read the Manual

i keep a large freezer bag in my bag with an hair bobble. bag had a whole cut in the end for the lens held in place with the hair bobble. ( yes i know you can buy things that are better) also leep a bin bag in case it is wet and you want to lay down or kneel

For Canon users pre-programme your C1, C2/C3 slots with settings to suit a couple of instances that will save time and faffing.
e.g. exposure bracketing at high FPS or sunny 16 etc etc

If you have a problem when shooting a wedding kneel in front of the bride and groom while you fix it. It acts like spitting in a drink. It keeps your place and the hords away.

Take the lens cap off.......... :bonk:

In seriousness......

If you camera supports it, enable highlight warning on the display screen so you can instantly see blown highlight.

Can save lots of tears :)

Not a secret but for me it made a big difference - back button focussing - makes focussing and recomposing so much easier. Can't really explain why but it makes me feel (and behave ) much more in control - probably just because I can focus and shoot independently.

When taking a shot, try to get a landscape and a portrait version, you can decide later which is better.
