Trend when new model announced?

Hi, I'm new to camers buying but fancy a robust compact to take skiing. I see a new Panasonic Lumix FT5 has been announced; the spec and price is more than I need and an FT4 will do me fine. In your experience, is it best to buy one now before stocks run out or wait a few weeks in the hope that the price will drop? Thanks.

In my experience, new stuff will take longer than a few weeks to drop in price! More like a few months usually before prices drop a decent amount.

Yeah, but Derek's dilemma is that, as a discontinued model, he needs to buy one while he can.

The price will not drop much, if at all, in the next few weeks. I'd buy now.
