Hi, a question that I am sure has been asked many times but maybe folks could help with my concerns. My daughter is about to travel using easy-jet and we were concerned about carrying 35mm film in her luggage. The luggage will be counted as cabin baggage so its possible, after reading certain blogs on the internet, that the x-ray used is low enough not to effect film. Just about all the film is ISO 400 or below if this is also a factor. Has anyone else experienced this situation.

Thank you in advance for any help

:)

Should be no problem with relatively slow films and a couple of scans. Took a few ISO 400 films through scanners 4 times a few years back and they suffered no ill affects. Hope she has a great time.

Thank you Nod for your fast reply and the advice which will ease her worries. She isn't one for confronting strangers at an airport as I imagine with most teens. I am sure she will have a good time and its great to see her interest using film and a 30+ year old camera. :)

There is no reason to worry.

I travel monthly with film, and even film that's been scanned 6-8 times hasn't ever had a problem.

I shoot 160/400 ISO. Maybe if she's shooting 1600 or something it's more sensitive.

There won't be a problem if passing through the weaker X Ray machines used for handluggage.

The hold luggage undergoes a stronger dose ( for want of a better word! lol) of X Rays, however I have occasionally packed film in my hold luggage and never experienced any problems wit fogging etc.

I'm travelling very soon with Easy jet during which all my film will endure four passes through X Ray, ....I'm more than confident that both the excposed and unexposed rolls will be just fine.:)

Thanks guys you have all been a great help. Being new to this forum, your quick and kind replies have only gone to prove the existence of a friendly community.

friendly and a bit nutty too :wacky::D

Although none of us can guarantee that nothing will happen , I've had my film scanned many times on various continents and all rolls have been fine. I've even accidentally left my film in my checked baggage and I haven't seen any ill effects.

That said, I do try to minimise risks where I can and get hand checks where it is convenient to do so. Sometimes I also just buy film when I arrive at my destination.

Had two boxes of 5x4 HP5 and Acros accidentally packed in checked luggage, so far the negs have come out fine. Never had any issues with carry on scanners either and I used to travel with Neopan 1600. I do get them hand checked if I have time/security will allow it.

I have travelled count-less times with Film onboard. Never had any issues, Lately i have carried, ektar100 portra 160 & 400 and superia 1600

Just to update that all was well with the films taken my daughters only error was opening the camera prior to rewinding the film back into its canister  the others were fine though :) Thank you all !:plus1:
