Be wary going to Kazakhstan, its become a growing recruiting ground for ISIS / extremists. In fact a lot of central Asia is becoming unsafe for Brits and US citizens and the FO have a general threat of terrorism highlighted for the area. Its a shame as its an absolutely stunning place.
East / south east Asia is still very safe.
I've read what the UK gov website says but personally I wouldn't think twice about going to Kazakhstan again but I suppose it depends where you want to go once there.
You have to engage your brain when going almost anywhere these days for example there are areas of Thailand I wouldn't go to and I'd advise other not to ether and these are highlighted on the gov website or at least they were the last time I looked. Use your brain and listen to the locals (if you're in touch with them) and I'd feel safer in either Almaty or Chon Buri than I would in Grangetown
