In October I'm Heading to Thailand for 3 weeks. While there i will be traveling all over the country and for part i will be trekking into the Jungle and staying with locals.

the kit I'm planning to take with me will be my Canon 50d with 18-55mm lens unless a better lens comes up before hand. (Advise on a better lens is welcome)

My question is. Due to only being able to take limited luggage with me, what protective cases would you advise for transporting the kit while not being used. IE during flights or on trains. ideally that take up minimal space.

also can anyone advise me on a good quality light weight travel tripod.

Thanks very much in advance.

Tom

Unless you have a very good reason (such as start trails) to take a tripod I wouldn't bother as even the light weight travel ones weigh a kilo and are a foot tall packed up, just use a bag or jumper if you need to.

If you really need one you can get it out there - there are camera shops all over the place.

Thanks for the advise about the tripod. Very wise idea.

I was mainly planning on just throwing the camera on my shoulder but I have been made aware while in the jungle there are high possibilities of heavy rain and was more worried about the camera getting wet?

Also I'm planning on changing the lens from a canon 18-55mm to a Canon 24-105mm
What are people's thought of this?

Cheers Tom

Personally I would miss the 6mm at the wide end.

Don't Canon do a 15-85 or a 17-85? That would be a preferable focal length for me.

I love my Nifty Fifty (50mm 1.8) and wouldn't travel without it, they are dirt cheap and a 2nd hand one just sold for £40 in the classifieds. Definately a worthy addition for any Canon owner.

Agree with this 100%, I took the majority of my photos with this lens on my last trip to India.

Yeah I had given the 50mm a lot of thought. I've been wanting one for a while now.

What would people's advice be then on a replacement for the 18-55mm?
