Hello,

Im going on holiday next week canary islands, just thinking about my kit getting on the air line, any one got any advice?

Iv got a lowe pro Pro runner 350 (will this be too big for hand luggage?)

Planning to take
D300s, 70-200 , 18-105, 50mm, 2 flashes, cleaning kit, Ipad + connection kit

Want to take my tripod can strap this to the side of my case in the haul ? (Jessop's carbon major)

Any tips you wish to share please do

Sorry if this is not the best place to post (Mods feel free to move)

do you really need the 2 flashes and the ipod, could dut down alot without those...

i went to egypt recently with only body, 8 memory cards, and a range of lens from 18mm - 200mm and that was 'enough'

dont forget your on holiday to relax, and im sure whoever your giong with wouldnt be too impressed if your trapsing around with all your kit ;)

tripod is a difficult one, it might be worth getting a small tabletop tripod (something cheap) or an SLR gorillapod instead of using some of your baggage with a tripod, which are never light...

It depends CRITICALLY on which airline you're using. They have VASTLY differing policies on hand luggage allowances, as this handy reference shows..

Check and double-check with your airline.

Hello,

Want to take my tripod can strap this to the side of my case in the haul ? (Jessop's carbon major)

you can try this - but they wont let you at check in and it won't be there at the other end. Take a bean bag instead

I put my carbon tripod in a suitcase between layers of clothing when I went to Australia.

I also found that I needed a flash unit (for controlled fill in flash).

Interesting this as I'm off to Dubai with Emirates next month. I was wanting to take my tripod as I was wanting to try some night shots. Just checked the link above and I can take 30kgs hold luggage so i can put it in my case :)

dont think mine will fit in the case? so looks like a bean bag it is:)

You won't get the tripod on board - mine was deemed a possible offensive weapon. I had no problem getting a lowepro Computrekker on as hand luggage.

Correct. What I do is take the head off and pack em both among the clothes that will go in the hold. Easy.
I have also invested in a peli case that will hold what I need so that when you get to your destination you can take the inner part out and use it like am ordinary camera bag.
Phil.

I always take my tripod in the suitcase. It's worth ditching a couple of pairs of shoes for!

Also use a Kata rucksack which has room for my camera & lenses in the bottom, laptop in the back, a flash & other gubbins in the main pocket. Just have to watch the weight on it (12kg on the last trip!), most airlines only allow 10kg. It's within cabin baggage size.

I bought a small cabin sized suitcase and put my camera bag (Explorer 9) inside, complete with laptop. Makes it easier to carry around once you've checked in.

Excellent link, thanks Stuart :)

Yeah, you'll be fine... wrap your tripod in a towel and throw it in the hold with the rest of your stuff :)
