Travel tripod or baggage upgrade?

So for my trip to Egypt in August I don't really want be without a tripod. I'm unsure what to take at the moment. I have two tripods, a Velborn cx540 and a Giottos (can't remember the model). I want to ideally take the Giottos, but it weighs 3kg. The Velborn half that.

I want to have the option to get low down if I need to, so I was thinking the Giottos would be my best option. However I would either need to upgrade my baggage allowance to 20kg or I buy a travel tripod. The alternative is to take the Velborn and save the money for filters. Im unsure what I to do and I'd like some advice, what would you take?

With all do respect I think that you may be over thinking this. Seems simple to me, take what you have a pay a little to do it if needed.

Hi, Just remember that in many places you cannot even take a tripod inside especially museums and the like, this has really come about because of Mr Holiday Maker taking in his 5ft tripod and turning round to take a pic and artifacts fly across the room like they have been hit by a cricket bat. I use the gorilla pad, not as good as tripod but small enough to fit in the camera bag.

It depends what type of trip you're having.
If it is an extended trip I'd take the biggest one I could.
If it's a holiday I'd make do with technique. If you want to take a pic from low down- get on the ground and use a rock to steady your camera. Use the side of a building, car, bus or tree for higher shots.

Tripods ruin holidays, work around it.

And as stated above, the Cairo Museum does not allow tripods. They don't like cameras either...

Cheers, it wouldn't be getting taken to museum's. But I think I might take the Velborn and buy a bean bag and fill it over there.
