In January I will probably have a lot of travelling to do work wise with some of it being to higher risk regions and wanted to know if anyone has been to or worked in these countries. I am aware of FO advice etc and I have a lot of contacts in the security industry but they, like me, are getting longer in the tooth and have put most of their 'adventure trips' behind them, but what I am after is real world tips and advice. It's been a few years since I worked in the Middle East and obviously things have changed considerably. One of the locations is Algiers but I flatly refused that last week )before the latest atrocity), that place really is Dodge City with westerners being constantly targetted for K&R etc.

The other locations include Amman in Jordan, Tripoli and Beirut . I also have trips to Serbia, Rome and Canada but obviously they shouldn't be a problem.

Any advice greatly received.

BT use Control Risks Group for all travel notifications.
I thought my link was an external one so I'll have to do some screen-scraping for you - can you PM me your email & I'll get copying & pasting...

Colin I don't have any tips but I was thinking it was just last year this time you'd been layed off and now look where you are. It is amazing what a year does eh? (you need the "eh" for Canada)

Thanks Phil, I've already been to the CR site (I've worked for them in the past) but what I was really after was real world experiences, the sort of things not usually found on t'internet. The whole project is up in the air at the moment and I might just flatly refuse to go to some locations, I see there has been another bomb in Beirut. I'm not too bad with it but it is Jan who is worrying, rightly so probably. :D

Hi Renee, crazy isn't it?! I don't know where the last twelve months have gone, as you say this time last year I was stressing about being made redundant.

When you go are you required to travel around? How far are you staying from where you need to work. Are you going to have to take public transportation? All these things will increase your risk. My father worked in Israel for a number of years and they ended up getting them guarded cars to and from the hotel because that is when they were most at risk.
