Hiya all, really after some advice on setup for travelling. Me and my girlfriend are off to Borneo, indo, Malaysia for 4 months Hiking, surfing and generally getting away from it all for that time. My current kit bag consists of 7D 18-135mm lens an a 70-300mm USM lens for surf, question is should I take a macro for the amazing wildlife and insects were gunnu see? plus what flash gun should I go for, also what bag could anyone recommend that's waterproof small and can fit 2-3 lenses in? cheers in advance Josh:thumbs:

A macro lens could be pretty restricting unless its mainly the small stuff your interested in?

I've just (yesterday) come back from Singapore. I left the flash gun at home, and never once wished I'd brought it with me. Didn't find the need for a macro either. Smallest thing I was shooting was lizards, found the 70-200mm or the 500mm were adequate despite being telephotos, so I'd guess you'd be fine with your 70-300.

No idea what kind of lizards they are, but an example from last week:

Both taken on the same camera you have.

Have you thought about perhaps selling the 70-300, combining it with the £370 budget you have and getting a better mid focal length zoom like the Canon 70-200 2.8? That would really do the 7D justice.

The 18-135 will be a good general lens for snaps. If your after decent landscape shots I'd recommend something like a 10-20 or 10-22.

Cheeeers for the reply :):) following you're advice Ive now decided that Im not gunnu bother with a flash gun, no point just extra stuff to get damaged. The 70-200m is still tempting me, the photos of the lizards are amazing! are they with the 2.8 IS version? just literally bought the 70-300mm last week not sure whether the 200mm has enough focal length for surf tog? I know what you mean about the macros being restrictive just though it may be a cool piece of kit to have in the bag for travels :) were not back for 2 1/2 years as were off to NZ to do a snowboard season + live and work and surf there, so basing my kit around that too. The 7d seems to be a pretty tough camera. Do I need to insure my kit? gunnu be adding up to well over 1200 quid in all, would be gutted to have no comeback if it got pinched :( anyhow any advice would be brill, Cheers Josh
