I came across this shop in the Manchester Arndale the other day and the acrylic prints looks very nice

Has anybody used them before? Any good/bad experiences?

I have just had two 24 x 16 acrylics done at the Lakside branch. Because I did not have the pictures with me when I picked them up, I did not notice that they were to dark.

This was one of them

On my monitor the sea is grey/blue, the land behind is slightly darker, the boats are black and the sky is graduated red at the bottom going to yellow nearer the top.

On the acrylic you have to look hard to see the difference between the sea, land and boats.

I am going to take them back and ask to look at the pictures on their monitor again. I would expect what I see on their monitor, is how they should look printed.

The girl in the shop did try and darken the picture, but immediately changed it back.

I will let you know how I get on, I might even get a chance to do this today.

With respect, and without seeing the acrylics you've had done. I think that's likely to be more about understanding how printing works and preparing a file for print, than a problem with the printers. Yours is already a very dark photo, it would need a fair bit of care to get a decent print out of the file.

Yes it is a dark print, but on my monitor and printer, there is quite a bit on tonal range in the bottom part of the picture, which is just not showing on the acrylic.

I would expect a professional print shop to have monitors and printers that are matched to each other, so when they show a customer a picture on the screen that is what the customer is expecting to get.

If when I go back, it does show as dark on their screen, then I will be my fault for not paying enough attention in the first place.

The reason the girl change her editing back to the original, is because all the tonal range was lost when she did that.

Thanks for the replies, think I will give them a try. Just need to choose what I want doing now.

I've used them loads of times and had no problems at all - however I'm a trade customer so get my canvases printed at their main office by emailling my images to them.

Drop Alex an email: a.ingram@transformyourimages.co.uk and become a trade customer.

ps I'm not affiliated in anyway to them

what discount do you get for a trade account and is there a minimum order value etc??

The discounts are very good!

No minimum orders, none that were explained to me anyway.

ouch !!
people think that those prices are cheap??
and + 30 quid for them to simple edits

acrylics are dear and i spotted a 20x30 inch canvas for £85, am amazed people pay that for their own pics on canvas.......!
